RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Adding solar to "pre-wired" camper.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was hoping to find out. Sorry for the delay in posting. I just got back from a 1700 mile trip. Camped somewhere new every night and never dropped below 12.4v according to my cheap 12v plug in monitor. This is with one standard deep cycle battery from fwc. I’m...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Adding solar to "pre-wired" camper.

I simply asked if that plastic connector was used because it was compatible with whatever charge controller fwc uses.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Adding solar to "pre-wired" camper.

I called fwc and they said I’ll have to cut that connector but that it’s really simple. I camp 4-5 days at a time and just use the battery for showers, lights at night and for the furnace. I pre chill the refrigerator on shoreline and then switch to propane. Voltage drops to about 12.3 after a...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Adding solar to "pre-wired" camper.

My camper is only a few months old but I think I'm going to add solar. I'm wondering if there are any charge controllers that are plug and play? I popped off the little block off plate and can see a wire loom with a connector. I'd prefer not to have to cut and splice. I'm assuming beyond the...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Air bag and tire pressure

I’m currently trying to decide which leaf pack to go with for my truck. 2014 Tacoma DCSB, OME lift. Will be running Firestone airbags and Daytar cradles. Camper won’t be on full time so I’m hesitant to run the Dakar leaf pack full time. Camper is a Swift. I was thinking a 300 lb leaf pack plus...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West FWC Swift Ordered - Now to prep the truck :-)

Good info but seems like he's over thinking it IMO. I've never once had a wheel come off the ground. That's just not the type of driving I do. His truck also sits like a stink bug even with a plate rear bumper. I don't need more clearance or travel. Just a level truck. Sorry OP if I'm hijacking...

do you run the camper full time? I'm worried about the ride and truck looking like a stink bug when the camper if off.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West FWC Swift Ordered - Now to prep the truck :-)

Sounds like we are in the same boat. I ordered mine last week for my DCSB Tacoma. I currently have a OME 3" lift with add-a-leaf. Planning on the Dakar leaf pack, Firestone Ride-Rite bags and the Daystar cradles. At my friends suggestion I may just do the leaf pack for now and see how bad it is...

I did. Placed an order for a well equipped Swift. I'm very excited and this is going to be the longest 10 or so weeks of my life!

The electric chainsaw is a great idea. I wish I had that I’m mind when I bought mine

Thank you for responding to my actual question. I may have to look into a more compact saw. I do love my Stihl though. If I empty it and put it in the carrying case it probably would be okay inside the camper. I'll have to look into some other ways people mount stuff.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Chainsaw and FWC

I know it's excessive but I like having a chainsaw when I camp. It's much easier to find a good dead log to cut and split and be done. The campfire is a huge part of the camping experience for me and I'm a bit OCD about my wood pile. Previously I've always kept the saw and fuel in the bed of my...

Well I’ve got my quote from AT overland. I think I’ve made all my decisions. Last and most important thing is to drive to Prescott and see them in person. Pending that I’ll go ahead and put my deposit down.

That’s what I’m planning. My dad gave away a similar trailer to my uncle who isn’t using it so I’ll just use that as my dolly

I don’t want to deflate the tires because one day I’ll forget and drive in and destroy the camper. Also I can store the camper off my truck in the garage. I have a two car garage and currently my truck and the camper I tow fit no problem.

Thanks Longhorn I read that thread before and after my dilemma. I don't think raising the garage height is an option. For one it can't be cheap, and I also live in an HOA with houses close together. It would stick out I'm sure. I measured as I pulled out on my way into work this morning and it...

Thanks pax. This might all be for nothing it seems. If it doesn’t fit in the garage I’m not gonna park $60 worth it rig out in the desert sun. And if taking on and off his half as difficult as the guy at Four Wheel Camper explainer then I won’t be doing that either
