RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

First, not sure what truck you are using with your camper. That would make a difference in what you finally decide. The room around the spring package on our truck was just too tight to make adjustments. We blew 3 sets of Airlift airbags with our 2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel and decided we had to...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

Jeff, We considered replacing our bump stops and were looking at a Canadian product. Since installing the extra leaves from Boise Spring we have had no further problems and so haven't pursued bump stop replacement. Chris

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

To follow up, We installed Boise Springs thanks to Buckland's post. Then completed a 16,461 mile trip across Canada, including the Trans-Labrador Hwy. Truck/camper performed flawlessly. Couldn't ask for a better combo. Ride is great and we averaged 22.1 mpg over the entire trip, but up to 25 on...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West truck/camper combo advice/opinions.

Hi there, here's a plug for the Chevy Colorado diesel /Fleet combo. We love ours!! The truck is very comfortable and handles the load well (altho we did installer additional leaf springs after airbags failed) and still gets great mileage (22.1 gal avg over 16,461 mi trip across Canada). Had no...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West 2016 Colorado Duramax, prepping for All Terrain Bobcat

Hi All, We just completed a Trans-Canada drive,16,461 miles in 80 days. We visited all provinces (tho a marginal entry into BC with a wrong turn) including Labrador and Newfoundland. Our Colorado Duramax/Four Wheel Fleet combo performed flawlessly. Over the whole trip we averaged 22.1 mpg, and...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

Buckland, thanks to your tip we are talking with Boise Spring right now. We hope this solves our suspension problem. We'll start there and then add shocks etc as we need to. We think this is a great truck, and we have the "off road" Z71 package, but it proved not beefy enough to manage the load...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

Thanks to you both for the suggestions. Sounds like 3 airbag failures is a break point in the decision process..... If this spring in addition to the airbag doesn't work (our local 4WD place is encouraging), then we'll go to the next step.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Chevy Colorado 2016 and a 2011 Eagle

We too love our 2016 Colorado diesel and it is a great combo with our new Fleet. Despite having the heavy duty 4WD options (off road package), we have blown two sets of Airlift airbags. Airlift is honoring the warranty and we have just installed the third set. Wish I had seen this forum....I...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Game changer? - 2.8 L Duramax Diesel

Since I last posted in October we have installed our Fleet camper and taken 3 small trips that included only minor off-road travel. The reality check has been that we have blown TWO sets of airbags. One bracket failed to hold position on the first airbag installation. In the second, the...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

Thanks for the great discussion. We have now blown TWO sets of Airlift airbags on our 2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel/FWC Fleet combo. Our offroading has been limited and relatively tame and nothing that should stress a properly augmented suspension. From input we received today from an off-road...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Tacoma/Fleet vs Ford150/Hawk

We new rig is a Colorado Diesel 4x4 and a Fleet equipped with solar, 2 batteries, fridge, heater, etc. The truck carries it with no problems and no sway with airbags adjusted up to about 70 lbs and ride is very comfortable. The diesel has plenty of power. On a short overnight run of about 300...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Moving your backup camera? Something to consider/remember

Our Four wheel camper installer is saying he will move the existing tailgate camera from our 2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel to the bumper. At first we considered installing an after-market camera in the bumper so that we could still use the tailgate camera when we took the camper off the truck...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Game changer? - 2.8 L Duramax Diesel

Our first trip in Sept. in our 2016 Colorado Diesel Longbed Z71 4WD was just shy of 5000 miles and averaged 28.1 mpg with mostly interstate driving. Accelerating uphill at 75 mph was amazing.....truck performed flawlessly. Using exhaust brake in steep descent from 10,000 ft peak was a...
