RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Hard sided pop top - how would you do it?

Like everyone else I've been designing a camper in my mind for years. I would second what Thom said about flex in a split door frame. WhatI have found in my old and severely beatup Alaskan that it has enough flex in the door frames that some times it won't latch, the next it will be wedged shut...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Lesson Learned

There was a discussion on this about this a few years ago on "the other forum". I read it but didn't think anything about it because we were leaving for Moab in a couple of days. On the way through Wyoming and bucking a high wind, I glanced in the mirror and saw my top raising. I slowed down and...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West An Alaskcan camper and Dodge dually story

Quick note on using the original 4 holes to bolt on the bed. The drivers side front bolt is where your fuel tank is. So donn't drill your bed there. Also if you're taking your camper on/off very much it's difficult to aline the wholes again. It took me 3 hours to get mine to aline again...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Wind or Air Deflector

Have you thought about a '53 Studebaker?? I have been thinking about an NCO like yours, but was planning on putting a Yakima rack and backet with a fairing on the cab as a deflector. I could then have some additional storage on the roof. Brad

My Alaskan is 25 years old and had very poor care by the previous owners. I've owned it for 6 years now. It has been off roaded through the Black Hills, Big Horns, Bear Tooths, Gravel roaded most of the time, including the Cambell Highway in the Yukon, and the Dalton Highway in Alaska. It is...

Kilroy, Nice Looking rig. Which bed is that? I like the way the back attaches to the receiver mount. It would act more like a triangle type of mounting. I had a problem with tying mine down using bumper mounts. It would spread the camper enough that the door wouldn't latch. I admit my camper...

Everybody, Thanks for the replies. I didn't mean to be rude and not reply sooner but as always life gets in the way. No real trips planned for now. In fact have the camper off of the truck. I managed to kill the house batteries with a short. Adding some pictures of the rig. Ice fields of...

Hyakian, If you are going to go off road, your camper needs to flex. I have ripped out both front corners of my Alaskan because of flexing. I currently use in the front happijac cushioned tiedowns to eye bolts in the reinforced corners. I have still managed to straighten out the eye bolts. In...
