RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk Shell Buildout Timelapse Video

Amazing craftmanship and great video! I followed some of your individual build videos but this one really ties it all together and adds a lot more detail. Thanks for putting that together.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Door window leaks

After 4 years of no leaking anywhere, we had a rainy day on the Dempster highway (first pic) and after a thorough truck wash, the window frame oozed Dempster mud down both sides. I found an old thread on this, I'm but wondering if there are any new suggestions, before I take it apart. Anybody...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC in Alaska or Yukon bear Country?

Heading to Alaska and Yukon next week with our Hawk Four Wheel Camper, and I'm wondering about areas that say "no tents" or "hard sided vehicles only". Or food must be in hard-sided vehicles. Anybody have issues camping in areas that say this? I feel we are mostly-hard sided. We store food in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Exterior Reflectix

Part of staying cool is good ventilation. I took aluminum poles from an old tent and fashioned a window awning. There is no sun on the side fabric or through the window and a nice breeze can flow through windows on both sides. All connections utilize existing screws. Key is to remembering to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Front roof lift helper

I replaced the black board with a 1" aluminum square tube with a strap hinge on one end and a light "hardware" handle on the other. The strap hinge gets the tube it up higher than the factory hinge/board so it is very close to the ceiling and the tube is much lighter and less painful if you hit...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to add shore power to shell model?

So sorry for the multiple posts. Didn't seem to be posting. And the link was bad to boot. Here is a better one: https://sites.google.com/view/sagebrushers/four-wheel-camper-mods/120v-ac

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to add shore power to shell model?

I agree with comments above and would also run a cord into a battery maintainer if that's all you will ever want to use shore power for. Do the simplest thing that works for your needs. I installed a DIY 120v setup and we like it for precooling the fridge before a trip and for running a vacuum...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Shell Questions

    1) Made a simple aluminum/wood holder and spacer that screws to the bench to secure my fridge and keep my extra cushions from sliding forward on the bench and blocking the vents. 2) I used the spare slot in the fuse block and put an AC and 12v plug in a plastic junction box near the front...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Hawk Shell on Order - Advice needed :)

We purchased a compact stove/sink combo (https://pantherrvproducts.com/mo8821lus/) because we wanted to be able to just make coffee and brush teeth and this does the job in minimal space. It is spendy, but does the job in minimal space on top of the furnace box and worth every cent. The key...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winter Camping Tips

Great advice above. I winterize because I can't always be sure I will alway have heat (furnace issues, hotel, back home). And we sleep mostly without heat until just before getting up, and with some ventilation. I would only add, if really cold, I'd sleep with a water bottle inside your...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Interior lighting upgrade

Very nice. I like the factory lights ok since they dim, but they are losing leds so I think I'll do this. We like to stargaze and watch meteor showers and the red light will really get our eyes adjusted before we head outside.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Third Brake Light Install

I like the idea and the cost. Do you think it would be just about as effective under the door? It's easier and maybe neater to get wires there than running up the side of the door. Thanks for the idea!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West water proof cover

I got an 11' x 16' 11mil tarp and fashioned a "nose" with grommets that is easy to pull on and fasten with bungies. Has a flap for the door. We camp in winter so we wanted something easy to pull on mainly when snow is forecast so our vent covers don't get frozen in. Lasted fine for 3 years.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help set up my F150 for a FWC Hawk

I removed the camera from the tailgate handle area on my 2018 F-150, protected it with foam and tape attached to a metal angle bracket and mounted it under the rear camper door. Finding a YouTube video on removing/replacing the camera for my era F-150 helped. It just plugs into the same wiring...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West If you can only choose one location, where would you place a fan?

Sorry for the delay Mderou, out camping. We have 2 Fantastic fans, but considering a MaxAir replacement over the bed. We also prefer passive venting, followed by gentle air pulled by a fan through the window by our heads most the time, but if it is really hot . . .

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West If you can only choose one location, where would you place a fan?

Agree with all of the above. If you do any cooking, even boiling water you should exhaust the water vapor, but on a really hot night the fan over the bed is priceless so that might be my first choice. . . but considering everything we bought for added comfort, not to mention the total cost of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Grey water setup questions!

In our Hawk Shell build, we utilize a $29 "dry sack" in the oddly shaped turnbuckle area to collect several days of grey water, then open a simple drain valve at the back end of the bed to drain when in an appropriate area like a pull out that is not regularly camped in. We like it because we...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A newbie seeks fridge guidance

Sorry Vic, the threaded rod in that picture is not yet attached to the panel. When attached, the 2 threaded rods just help to secure the panel near the middle. Really just to be sure. And, Stringer I never actually used AM Solar, I was just inspired by their no-drill VHB method so I can't...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A newbie seeks fridge guidance

I agree solar is the way to go. I hate drilling into my camper also, so after reviewing AMSolar's site and seeing how they use Very High Bond tape with very specific specs for precleaning and say they never lost a panel, I went that way. To be extra safe, I used some simple Hurricane ties, bent...

Thanks, but I don't think that's it as the tank is always strapped in.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane door misaligned

Well, it took a little more than gentle persuasion to close up the bottom part of the hinge but opens freely now. Your theory is the only thing that makes sense, m5040. We can't think of when we opened the door that far, but who knows after a couple beers. Thanks all for the input. Problem solved!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane door misaligned

Good suggestion. The back side diagonals are the same within 1/8 inch. Here are some pics. It doesn't look like much but it takes several hard whacks to get it to close. Hinge seems fine and is same on top and bottom. My next step may be to take a big hammer to the hinge on the bottom to push...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane door misaligned

After no other trauma than badly wash-boarded roads in Death Valley last week, my propane compartment door on my 2019 Hawk Shell became badly misaligned. I can't see any problem with the hinge nor how to take it apart since it is rivetted on. After a little banging it can be forced shut, but...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Size of couch in Hawk shell?

I am 6' 8" and we stealth camp infrequently but stealth "nap" often. In my Hawk Shell build, we have no rollover couch, but I built out one bench 5" for a better seat, then put 1 by 2 cleats along both benches and a front cabinet I built. Then I have two 39" plywood boards I drop between the...
