RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How do you store 1 lb propane bottles

In the propane cabinet, inside an old sock so it doesn't bang around.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West BC Canada border restrictions

Yes, I'm waiting for the border to open so we can get north to our cabin. Currently closed to all but essential traffic until June 21, but (I think) most likely will continue to be closed beyond that date. Frustrating, but understandable given the relative difference in virus cases and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Seam sealing vinyl

Just thought I would pass along a tip for sealing the stitching on popup campers. I've been working on a boat cover using vinyl cement (HH-66, available from an outfit called Sailrite - probably other vendors as well), which works really well as a seam sealer. It's a lot like PVC pipe cement...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Health scare and trip planning

Were planning to head to our cabin in northern BC in three weeks, but border is now closed. Hoping it opens up at least enough to let us across before too long. If we can get there, we'll be happily in isolation for several months.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Atwood jack covers

I have a couple of cracked plastic covers on my Atwood manual jacks. Unable to find any replacements online - everyone indicates out of stock, and the sense I get is that Atwood is out of business. Anyone have a potential source? Otherwise, I'll have to fabricate something myself. Thanks,

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Victron BMV-700 dead

OK, I feel like an idiot, but that was the problem. I had the power wire plugged into the back of the meter in the "relay" slots. They look just like the slots on the shunt. Thank you Vic for saving me from replacing this!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Victron BMV-700 dead

Perhaps the 712 is different, but mine only has a power (+) wire and the RJ cable. The only other plug on the back of the display is for the dongle. I presume that the ground is one of the wires in the RJ. Am I missing something?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Victron BMV-700 dead

Vic, Have read through some of the forums. Most of the problems seem to at least have some sort of display. I was unaware of any support phone. Will try that. ckent, Yes, I'm sure it is properly wired. Power through fuse to the end of the + cable, inserted into display (I tried both...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Victron BMV-700 dead

Nothing I can see. Tiny PCB on the side of the shunt. I don't see any access to the back of the round display.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Victron BMV-700 dead

My BMV-700 appears to be dead. Was working fine last fall. I definitely have power to it (checked fuse, actually measured voltage), have checked the 3-pair cable (and tried three different cables, checked the continuity on them as well). Have tried a reset according to the manual. Nothing...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Victron Energy Video ... How to not blow up your alternator when charging a lithium battery

Although expensive, I bought a Redarc DC-DC charger that handles both solar and alternator inputs. Mine limits the input to 60A. Haven't actually tried it yet, still getting installed.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Staying logged in

Cleared cookies, power cycled, no joy. This does not happen on any of my other forums or sites I visit regularly. Will try a few other things if I can think of them, including taking this forum off of LastPass.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Staying logged in

Nope, just my regular laptop. I logged in this morning and posted this thread, just came back this evening and had to log in again. No OS upgrades or anything. As mentioned, I did recently change my password and am using LastPass, so maybe that has something to do with it?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Staying logged in

Normally, I stay logged into the forum site for days at a time. I just recently started being required to relog in every time I try to look at the new forum posts. Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong? I did recently change my password. Thanks,

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Battery charging question

OK, possibly problem solved. I was crawling about under the truck today to look closer at wiring, and moved the power wires a bit and ZAP - clearly a short, started the insulation on fire even. Pretty scary. Obviously blew the fuse, so it has been doing it's job. This also probably explains...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Battery charging question

Thanks for the input. I realize I could upsize the wires and fuse but that seems to not really address some fundamental problem. Surely not everyone has #4 wire running to their campers. To answer the questions, this was a standard install by ATC. I did add a Victron SOC monitor myself...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Battery charging question

So, as background, I have an F150 with no "smart alternator" and an ATC. I have an electrical problem. Twice now, I have run the house battery down to about 55% charge. When I fire up the truck, expecting the alternator to charge my battery, I end up finding that the 30A fuse between the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Satpaq satellite adapter to phone

In the FAQ it says these can be used "in the 50 states and international waters around the US." Would be nice if it worked in other places (Canada, Mexico). Maybe it does, but I could not find that info anywhere.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Alaska bound, end of July

Pretty smoky in lots of places up here right now. Highway between Whitehorse and Dawson is bad in places - there is one big fire within a couple miles of the road. Lots of fires and smoke over in Alaska. Good website for smoke prediction in Canada is firesmoke.ca which predicts smoke patterns...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Touch-up kit for rusty screw-heads

Tip here: get a step drill to make holes bigger than about 1/8" in thin sheet metal (aluminum or steel). Much safer and cleaner holes. You can buy a set of three of them at Harbor Freight for maybe $10. Less if on sale. Useful to drill a small pilot hole with a regular twist drill in many cases.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Garmin/InReach Message Issues

Wow, I was (blissfully?) unaware of this problem. I carry the InReach in my airplane. Makes me wonder how well the "SOS" button would work if needed..... Fortunately I have a 406 PLB as well, but certainly now I will count on that more than the InReach.
