RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Single burner stovetop

I would probably give it a try (repair), but I'm on the road until end of September. If RnK wants it, go for it. I'll check back with you in two months to see where it's at. Thanks.

I did not get one. In my mind, I couldn't justify the cost for what it is. Still using an old coleman stove for now.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Truma furnace install.... Amazing!

I have an ATC with the Atwood furnace. Looks like this takes up a bit more space than the original furnace? Would be interested to know if this is the case since I would love to replace the jet engine furnace.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Atwood corner jacks......?

I have a set of each. They use different driver sizes. The Atwoods, I believe, are no longer made. They have a fragile plastic cap over the gear mechanism that is prone to breakage, and as far as I have found, there is no replacement part available. I've had to fabricate one cap and wire...

Thanks all for the suggestions. Hoping to find something a little less pricey than the Panther one but may have to go with that. Cheers,

Anybody out there found a good single-burner propane cooktop (for inset into counter, not on top of counter)?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Keeping Camper Centered

Different material but similar to the wood block approach. I put two pieces of nylon block (approximately 3" cube) bolted to the top of the truck bed in the front corners. Beveled the inside parts of the blocks so when the camper goes the last few inches forward, it is centered between the two...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West External TorkLift Camper Tie Down

I use them on the outside of the camper, just drilled an extra hole (1/2") in the flange for the jacks and put the hook through that hole. Bottom hook goes through the frame mount. For the rear, I added my own piece of angle steel to the frame near the bumper and have a chain, quick link, and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wandering from Tennesse to Alaska 2023

Did you get all the way to Mac pass on the Canol? How was the road in general? It has been closed some years because of washouts.

Inverters are pretty inexpensive these days. Worth oversizing a bit, but your calculations look ballpark correct. Most modern alternators on vehicles will put out way more than you need to run a small (250-500W) inverter to charge your saw.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Starlink Roaming

Thanks. We're on a hilltop with a very clear view of the sky, so should have no issues. But if we go that route, it would be wise to download and check before spending the bucks on equipment. I would actually like to be able to move the setup seasonally between our cabin and house, but a bit...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Starlink Roaming

Jack, thanks for the report as I've been considering this for our cabin in northern BC. A question/clarification. You mention power usage of 4-7.5A through your DC-AC inverter. Is that on the DC or AC side? That is, 4A at 12V (48W) or 4A at 120V (480W)? I'm presuming the first (48W) is more...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Motorola Defy Satellite Link

I hope they get the bugs worked out. Much better price overall for someone who uses this stuff sparingly. I really don't like the inreach that I have - it seems ok if you have a phone to pair with it, but using the built-in buttons on the inreach sucks.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ford F150 3.5 Ecoboost experiences

2015 F150 with the 3.5 ecoboost, had it since new. Medium cab (suicide doors, not a full crew cab) and 6.5 bed with ATC Cougar (7' wide by 8' long, sits on the tailgate with the gate down). Running at around 67 mph without camper I get around 20-22 mpg, with the camper on, drops to 15-16 mpg...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cam straps to keep turnbuckles from loosening?

I don't use the standard setup but do have a couple of turnbuckles on the back. Drill a small hole in one of the threaded portions of the turnbuckle and insert a clevis pin clip (kind of like a cotter pin and commonly used on trailer hitches) to keep the body of the turnbuckle from unscrewing.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Interesting owner-built camper with pop-up hard-sided roof

I have thought about a project like this for several years. I think the biggest challenge is getting it watertight at the corners. I have been thinking that a bit of roof overlap (similar to what is done on ATC tops), if done properly, would probably do pretty well. If you ever hear from the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West British Columbia mainland coast northward

Frank, Yes, Highway 20 goes out to the coast to Bella Coola (Bella Bella is actually further west on an island, only access is ferry). Partway out the road from the Fraser, it turns to gravel and can be slow going. The top of the road is about where it goes into the east side of Tweedsmuir...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West British Columbia mainland coast northward

We travel between the NW US and our cabin in NW BC every year. Often different routes. Last year stayed at Kleanza Prov. Park near Terrace - very nice spot (we were there in early May), but may be busy midsummer. Most of the provincial parks are pretty nice and if you prefer a little more...

How is this thermostat for cycling? Does it keep a reasonably constant temperature or does temp fluctuate up and down a lot?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West You know you're a geezer when.......................

A few pieces of duct tape over the screen would at least cut the visual and maybe send a message..... but I suppose that would be seen as criminal..... I despise the TV gas stations.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Uh-oh: Garmin is killing off Inreach preset messages

I despise Garmin across a lot of platforms. They seem to be the proverbial 900 pound gorilla and clearly don't care about anything but profit. If anyone knows of an alternative that is reasonably priced, please post.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wandering from Tennessee to Alaska

Sounds like a good plan to me. Be sure to keep an eye on the smoke/fire situation. Last summer several roads in Yukon were intermittently closed due to fires. Carry extra fuel unless you have a large tank. If you are on the Alcan between Watson Lake and Whitehorse, we're close by - stop and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Vengeance (warning: minor gore)

Sage, the rodents will often enter through the cabin air intake system, particularly in Toyotas. Worthwhile putting a piece of hardware cloth over the top of the cabin air filter, which will keep them from getting into the interior (at least through the air intake route). Another thing that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cigarette plugs

Thanks all for the replies. I'll look into the compressor fridge - much better and more efficient appliance (similar ones were in the multi-hundred-dollar range when I bought my Coleman for $79). I actually have two of the Colemans so am reluctant to change over completely. Not sure what amps...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cigarette plugs

Thanks for the suggestions. The problem is not the plug falling out, it's what Jack mentions - plugs get hot and melt the cheap plastic before the fuse blows. (my application is for a Coleman piezo cooler, which does take some power) I'm considering just ripping out the cigarette plug and...
