RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What do you use to level your truck camper

We typically dig a hole under the highest tire(s) and drive into the hole(s). This combined with driving up onto rocks or pieces of wood has kept us level in some pretty bad spots. We also use the circle bubble level that others mentioned. Bubble level in the truck helps us park and then we...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Where do you go when you gotta go?

+1 Over 200 days on the road in our FWC and she still says the pStyle is her favorite piece of gear. For numero dos it's squat time...usually a hole...but the morning views can't be beat when living on the road :) When we can't find solitude with a short walk we have a 3 gallon bucket with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Full Time in a FWC

We have been full time in our Hawk since July. Zero complaints thus far. We have the roll over couch and have stealth camped with the top down in areas/neighborhoods when we need to break up the drive and the camping is too expensive and/or prohibited.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New camper! Looking for solar suggestion 160w or 200w?

We have the same Trimetric 2030 meter + SC-2030 controller combo and it has worked perfect. Based on Handy Bob's advice and my research this was the best option out there. It allows you to set the charge setpoint voltage & amps, the float and finish charge voltages, the overcharge percentage...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Outdoor shower worth it?

Thank you Phil! We had a blast making my "Redneck Daydream" come to life. I'll try to send you the pic but not sure it will work with the spotty internet in Baja. And congrats on ordering the new Hawk!!!...good times ahead.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Outdoor shower worth it?

Thanks Dave! I appreciate it. We're looking forward to getting the Helio on board. Like you said, I can see it being very useful for a quick rinse. We're currently in Baja so getting the sand off before entering the camper will be nice.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Off Road Tire Pressure - How Low Do You Go?

FWIW I'm airing up a bit after doing some reading on E rated tires. Seems like I've been putting a bit too much strain on the side walls for standard driving. 47F/53R for now but will still air down based on the situation...guessing I'll drop back to low 40's for parts of baja next week.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Outdoor shower worth it?

We liked the idea of the Helio shower since it packs small and can be pumped via foot, but thought it was too expensive. Randomly searched again today and it's $25 less on Amazon and Moosejaw! $75 still isn't cheap but I wanted to be able to quickly rinse off dishes, feet, etc. outside without...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Off Road Tire Pressure - How Low Do You Go?

06 Tundra DC w/ Hawk on full time Cooper AT/3 E rated 265/70R17 Driving across the U.S. 45F/47R felt a little too hard on washboard & forest roads...good on highway. For us 40F/42R was a good compromise for highway & back roads. Soft Sand we dropped to 35 all around...worked well. Using VIAIR...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ultimate Flexible Solar Panels - successes and warranty replacements

We were able to get our panels refunded without taking them off the roof. Ours are seriously glued down with 3M VHB Tape and 3M 4000 adhesive. We stopped by the Renogy facility and had a technician test the panels and break off the junction boxes. I wonder if they would allow customers who...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Family of 5 and cat in FWC Hawk? Ideas Needed

possibly...but then again...it just might work : ) Met a lot of people "full-timing" since we got on the road. Plenty of people spend 1-3 years doing the Pan-American highway in the back of little SUVs, pickups w/shells, VW busses, etc. We've been feeling pretty roomy in our Hawk after seeing...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Family of 5 and cat in FWC Hawk? Ideas Needed

Good times indeed. Your comment about a make shift bunk got me thinking. I wonder if it would be possible to build a flip-up kid bunk going north-south on the passenger side of the Hawk. It would cover the side window when flipped down and could be supported by a bracket on the rear wall and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Family of 5 and cat in FWC Hawk? Ideas Needed

Yep...full-ish time in a Hawk! I do believe they will go back to trailing something after their initial plan for baja and who knows where else. For now they really want the go-anywhere flexibility of the FWC. These kids are road-life experts so I think they have a good chance of pulling it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Family of 5 and cat in FWC Hawk? Ideas Needed

That does sound like a good setup. Since they are going for a shell I wonder if they could build out a larger front dinette to accommodate two kids on a converted dinette and the adults and little one up top.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Family of 5 and cat in FWC Hawk? Ideas Needed

Hi WTW! This past week we met an awesome family (2 adults + 3 children + 1 cat) traveling in an Airstream since 2008. The crazy part is they are planning to downsize to a FWC Hawk!!! Love it! They are currently on their way to Woodland, CA to order a Hawk shell and build out the interior...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Buy FWC, Quit Jobs, Drive to Argentina

Nice!!! We toyed with getting a hitch mounted gear rack that flips up. Thought we could mount a jerry can to it and keep the rack locked in the upright (flipped-up) position to block the door. Wouldn't be nearly as nice as your option though.

Thanks! Those are all good reasons to bring one...we definitely agree. Just got back to service/civilization so we'll see what our budget/time allows us to put on the rig.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Drain in propane box?

We have an 05 Hawk and ran out of time to do a drain-hole mod to the propane compartment before our trip. The silicone had separated from the wood so we pulled it all out and recaulked with 3M 4000. Our cheap fix has been to leave a large car wash sponge under the tank by the door. This soaks...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Buy FWC, Quit Jobs, Drive to Argentina

Thanks Stan. Really appreciate how you guys take the time to help out FWC customers. Just another reason we love our FWC....although we got a bit jealous after seeing the loaded silver spur Hawk outside of the Jackson Hole FWC. Those AT jerry can holders are the prefect option. We were...
