RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC’s and Ultralight backpacking

Weight is my main concern. I have a Tacoma 4x4 with a max payload of around 1400lbs. My camper is an old Eagle somewhere around 6-700lbs dry. I have to be careful or I can quickly exceed max weight.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC’s and Ultralight backpacking

One of the main reasons I was drawn to Four Wheel Campers is because for years I was into ultralight backpacking where you need to be mindful and weigh every item in your pack choosing only the lightest of every essential item you need. FWC’s seem to be the ultralight version of a fully...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Floor -- OSB or Plywood?

I’m a building contractor. We use “Structual” OSB for shear walls and the like. It’s very strong and is made with waterproof glues and resins. The Structual stuff is made for exterior applications. I would choose the lighter of the two.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West velcro on popup

Old Crow That is indeed the case but I can modify your idea by simply sewing the Velcro strip with a single stitch line across the top Todd

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West velcro on popup

Old Crow One thing I don’t understand about your solution. You’ve attached new Velcro to old Velcro. My problem is that nothing will attach to the old Velcro. Did you sew the new to the old?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West velcro on popup

That looks good. I’m thinking of replacing just the 8 short strips at the top. I have one of those stitching awls I’ve used with success before. It would take a while though.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West velcro on popup

I have an old Eagle that has the window "flaps" on the outside. The velcro has worn out and the flaps no longer stay up. It looks like a pain to replace the velcro. Does anyone have experience with this that can give me advice. Todd Homchick

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Complete solar power system.

I have installed a new solar power system. I removed the old system and have it here in my garage. It’s has an 80 watt panel, a charge controller, a 55ah Optima blue top battery, a battery monitor, a fuse block that holds 6 fuses And enough cable to go from the roof to the camper. I would let it...

Is my 2001 Eagle that came with an icebox framed for a vent opening? I have taken out my ice box and I am preparing to install a Truckfridge TF65 AC/DC. Would I need one or two vents? Todd

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar on a tight budget. Batteries

After reading peoples opinions and upon further deliberation I've decided that when it comes to safety, weight, power and cost, 2-6 volt AGM batteries are the way to go. I believe it would be a mistake to scrimp too much on what is arguably the most important part of an electrical system. With...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar on a tight budget. Batteries

Maybe I should re-think my amp hour requirement. Presently I only have led lights and a fantastic fan. The whole reason for this upgrade is to get more power for a refrigerator. Maybe 200ah on up is way more then I need. I may add a furnace at a later date but I doubt it. I could afford to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar on a tight budget. Batteries

Vic. Thanks for the response. I believe that set up would be above my budget. What would be the cost of two 6 volt AGM batteries. I can’t exceed $400 tax and delivery included. On the other hand I may find I’ll have increase my budget.

Yes. Creating a vented compartment is easy. Besides the occasional boondocking and washboard dirt roads I’m not really into off-roading

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar on a tight budget. Batteries

So, I had pretty much decided to buy and install two Trojan 6 volt, T-105, 225 ah batteries in my camper because it seemed like they gave me the most bang for the buck, but by the time I pay two core charges and tax I’m spending pretty the same as would for a 200ah AGM battery like a V-Max or...
