RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West winterizing your camper questions

D225 - good job man! You've done more than many do I think. You didn't mention the outside shower hose; if you have one, I would remove it and make sure it's drained well. The little puddle of water in the metal heater tank wont hurt a thing. Wish I had a pole shed! My IOTA is a great smart...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tube below the water pump with the shut off valve?

I don't see how the little camco plugs blow water out of the pump. Nothing (air or water) flows backward through the pump, so unless you pressurize the tank, you are not clearing water out of the pump.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tube below the water pump with the shut off valve?

DanT, I agree completely. The OP used the words "winterize" and "antifreeze" and so I felt compelled to share my experience. Like Alaska, Alberta winters can be truly cold, unlike other places where you might "want to use the camper occasionally during the winter." Ha ha! I hope I relayed...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tube below the water pump with the shut off valve?

additional thoughts... The hose connection T's into the water lines "after" the pump, so blowing out the lines that way would not necessarily clear the pump or lines rearward. Obviously the pump has a checkvalve preventing flow back to the tank. Also, depending on pump internals and mounting...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tube below the water pump with the shut off valve?

4WCampers aren't set up for winterizing like you want to do. I added a siphon kit before the pump, so I can switch to a clear tube that draws antifreeze from a bottle (not the tank). I also added a bypass to the water heater. I don't put antifreeze in the water tank or the water heater, but I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Heater update

My heater will not ignite on a low battery either. I think this is normal, but I don't know the details. As soon as you fire up the truck or charge the battery a bit, the heater will function normally.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Water pump won't!

Thanks for posting about Sureflo warranty service. My pump has worked flawlessly for 10yrs. The lines and pump are filled with RV antifreeze every winter, and temps are regularly -50F here. Sometimes blowing air through the lines isn't enough, as there may be a low spot or puddle in the pump...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electice hook-ups

longhorn1, sounds like you got it. FWC come with NEMA TT-30P plug and cord. You may commonly find the following receptacles at campgrounds: NEMA 5-15R NEMA 5-20R (I don't see this one often) NEMA TT-30R NEMA 14-50R So, to be prepared, one should have: 30amp female to 15amp male adapter (also...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Filling Propane cylinder

My horizontal tank is always filled in vertical position also. I'm coming up on the expiration date of my horizontal 20# tank. New horizontal tanks cost much more than vertical tanks. Let's just say new horizontal costs $150. Say new vertical costs $50. A new tank is certified for 12 years...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Little human sleeping arrangements

We either stacked up clothes bags/pillows/diapers beside the lower bed as you suggested --- or --- they slept up top with us. An adult would sleep at the edge so baby couldn't roll off. They dont take up much room at that age.......memories!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2nd Spare Tire

lol! I've driven the Dalton many times, years ago people often carried 2 spares, but not nowadays. Road is much improved and better maintained. I'll haul extra fuel before I'll haul a 2nd spare. Besides, you'll need the money to replace your windshield when you get back! :-)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Arcing/Popping when plugging in Hawk

Someone mentioned voltage spikes.....well mine will blow a 20A fuse (I can't remember 4 sure which one - probably the charge wire from the IOTA to the battery) most of the time when I plug or unplug to shore-power. Now, SOP is to use the breaker as suggested. Kinda bugs me that they do this...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sub-zero Cold Cold Highway Travel

I never would have guessed the water heater would drain back on its own....is your hot water heater tank entirely ABOVE your water storage tank? I don't think you said what model camper you have. The bottom of the hot water heater tank in my Grandby sits BELOW the top of the water storage...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Grandby Shell Build

Looks awesome! You've got some great ideas goin. I also like the simplicity of water jugs, however we like to cook, and generally have some dishes to clean up, etc. so a sink and plumbing are important for me. Your observations about the swing carrier are spot on. I wanted to do something...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sub-zero Cold Cold Highway Travel

IMO, running the furnace does very little to protect from freezing the following: outside shower plumbing (including valve) water tank drain line and valve water utility hookup (if used since last drain) I always winterize the camper for freezing weather (drain plumbing, antifreeze in pump...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Switching Rear Facing Flood Lights in Truck Cab

X2 My camper plug is a 3 prong, but only 2 are used (positive battery, and ground). I always had in mind to use the 3rd (unused) prong to operate the rear floods. With your plans for a front light bar, though, you may want to get an RV style plug with additional prongs. I already have rear...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Norcold 323 Refrig Propane will not ignite

meneco, I found it very simple to disassemble the burner tube and give it a good cleaning. A couple screwdrivers, end wrenches for gas line fittings, and a small wire brush are the tools needed. My Norcold quit lighting after 8 or 9 years, and after I cleaned it, it lights easier than I ever...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Shell vs Loaded?

We (family of 4) have spent a fair bit of time in the Grandby over past several years, including a 6-week long roadtrip from AK to America and back. ;) As far as "camping" goes, the things we use the most are: water for cooking & showers, kitchen sink for cooking & cleaning, hot water heater...
