That's too funny. Porcupines and tires.... you may have discovered how we can eliminate the used tire problem in this country..

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone using an inReach 2-way Satellite Communicator?

Thank you Old Crow. That is great information to consider when weighing the option to upgrade to the Explorer+. Unfortunately, I was one of those that was hoping to reduce the number of electronic devices in my pack. If I had a request of Garmin, it would be to invest in a team of UX...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone using an inReach 2-way Satellite Communicator?

Bigfoot, it sounds like we use the same approach. InReach for emergencies and a different GPS device for navigation. I have the previous version of the InReach Explorer and while I generally like the device, I find the user interface to be a poor and I don't like depending on my phone for a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone using an inReach 2-way Satellite Communicator?

I received an email today from Garmin stating that there had been some issues with sending email and text messages. I tested the function again and everything seems to be working much better. It took less than a minute to receive both the email and the text messages from the time that my...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone using an inReach 2-way Satellite Communicator?

Wow. In an earlier post there was a discussion about using the inReach to notify a friend if you are out of cell reception and had car trouble. Good thing I know to not email them. 19 to 20 hours for an email message to go through! I don't like to be critical of a company on a public forum...

On the subject of sending messages, I did some experimenting sending text messages and email to my wife. The text message arrived in just a few minutes. The email message took almost 20 hours to arrive. Her email account is on gmail so pretty normal. Anyone else have any experience with...

Can I use the inReach Address since I would not want to be checking email while I am on the trail. Otherwise, it negates the reason for hiking and wanting to get away from email.

Got it. I thought this was the service I discussed with a support rep a few months ago. He mentioned a service where a user would be notified in the event of conditions which would put the user in danger. Based on the users current location, they would be notified of issues like weather or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Hawk owner with a few questions

Hey Mike. Sorry for the late response. I've been busy with a new grandson. For the wiring, I just extend the wiring by splicing extra wire then some electrical tape and added some plastic wire mesh I picked up at the local hardware store. For mounting the camera on the camper, I built a...

What size sidearm do you carry. Just wondering as I often hear that a pistol will not stop a bear. Not a gun owner at present and not anxious to become one but I have several friends that do and are either policemen or retired policemen that have offered to assist if I have any interest. The...

Good point JaSAn. I had forgotten about that and probably a good idea to take while backpacking for a variety of reasons. One thing to keep in mind, the sound can echo off the tree line if you are in an open area. That happened to me many years ago while on a kayaking trip. The first blast...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Hawk owner with a few questions

Attached a Yakima wind deflector which only helped to reduce bugs behind the cab. It did however reduce the buffeting effect when semi trucks passed while traveling in the opposite direction. I believe the concept would work if it were higher. Also, what are you using for a step? I...

Perhaps you can answer my question. I have a clear brand bear container for my pack. I have noticed that some areas of the country require you to hang your food but they don't mention if bear containers are approved. I would assume that a bear container is always allowed since hanging food...

That was my thought. In Jan we were camping in our FWC and my wife fried some bacon. We weren't in bear country but the smell lingered for at least a day. I realized at that moment that we would cook outside the camper if we were in bear country and cooked anything that smelled that good.
