RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Prospective buyer here. Will a base F150 and a FWC Shell model work?

We have a GMC half ton regular cab with air bags. Our Hawk is about 1100 lbs. dry weight. Fully loaded we are about 100 lbs. over GVW but our truck drives and handles just fine. When towing the trailer and Jeep along with the camper it still works ok until we travel over the mountains then It...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West F-150 set up modifications

I installed Firestone air bags purchased from etrailer.com on my half ton. I installed them myself as it was quite easy. They work great and have been leak free for over four years. I only need to run about 30 pounds of air in the bags to bring the truck back to normal height. I really like...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Plug options for new TruckFridge

It was actually on EBay that I found the cover. Here are a couple of options. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dometic-Cool-Freeze-Protective-Cover-for-CF-50-IC-CF-50/362635873176?epid=1023649323&hash=item546ec84b98:g:~7gAAOSwt7ZXpKpi...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Plug options for new TruckFridge

Our Truck Fridge is rotated between the camper and the Jeep. Just like jimjxsm I ordered an extra 12 volt cord which was pretty inexpensive. In the Jeep I have the Fridge hard wired to a dedicated circuit with a 15 amp fuse. I do monitor the temp occasionally because sometimes the silly thing...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Home Depot Space Heater

This post won’t interest you off the grid Campers but for those like my wife and I who spend most of our time plugged in at RV parks this inexpensive electric heater works like a champ. The factory propane heater in our 2015 Hawk works fine but it always seems to be either too chilly or too hot...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Silverado 2500 Payload

I agree with W. Sagebrush, the GM lawyers are assuming a slide in camper would be a large, hard sided, over the cab unit which would dramatically change the center of gravity and promote a roll over. A low profile, light weight pop up camper skews their numbers in my opinion. I just look in the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Brakes on Midsize with Camper

I’m no expert but I considered putting slotted rotors on my Jeep to increase braking when traveling off road in low gear. I researched slotted rotors and came to the conclusion that slotted rotors are for race cars. There may be disagreement from others but that’s my humble opinion.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bunk Head Room – Fleet VS. Hawk

In our Hawk the headroom in the bunk is not a problem but that lifting push board is a magnet for our heads. My wife and I hit our noggins on that thing nightly. Minor annoyance however because we love our Hawk, the fun factor is off the hook! I like your idea of the F-150 verses the Toyota...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West blown fuses in new FWC Hawk Atwood furnace

I just had the thermostat fail in my 2015 Hawk. You might try taking the faceplate off the thermostat and touch together those two wires. I did this and my furnace kicked right on.

Success! I took Rando’s suggestion and purchased the Honeywell thermostat off Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H6ARNXO/ref=cm_sw_su_dp Installation was pretty easy and now it’s all happiness. Thanks for everyone’s advise.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rocky Mountain Four Wheel Campers

We ordered and purchased our Hawk from Chris about 3 years ago. He opened his shop for us on a day he was normally closed to accommodate us and install the new unit. He’s an outdoorsman and camper himself so he knows the biz. Highly recommend Rocky Mountain FWC.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thermostat Failure 2015 Hawk

Just received an email from FWC and they are installing White Rogers non digital thermostats in their new campers. To buy from them would be 12 dollars plus shipping. Hey Rando, on my current thermostat there is a wire going to a W terminal and a wire going to a RC terminal. There is also a...

I did try new batteries and it made no difference. I think an email to FWC may be in order to determine what style thermostat they’re installing in new units.

It’s a digital unit made by White Rogers. I was under the impression FWC switched to a Honeywell digital?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thermostat Failure 2015 Hawk

We had our 2015 Hawk out for Labor Day weekend in Moab Utah and during one chilly morning the furnace wouldn’t kick on. I turned to my number one trouble shooting resource the WTW search feature. One member suggested to bypass the thermostat by touching together the two wires going into the back...
