RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flexible Solar- Still going vs Dead

So far we are able to account for 43 total panels (of the Renogy type, I excluded the Global solar type listed) that are or have been owned by members on this site. Of those 43 panels, 10 have failed. In addition, 8 of the 33 remaining working panels have been obtained by purchase or exchange...

Thanks Jim, DonC clued me in on the weight and that was a definite deal breaker. 27 lbs is just too much. For now I decided to just keep my flexible panel and come up with a way to ensure I can charge with my truck if needed.

When you get back from vacation lets take a closer look at your setup and make sure there is no chance. I doubt it though as the only thing I can think of would be reverse polarity.

Ronanmd- That's a great auto part store. The ones in my neck of the woods don't seem to have much in the way of wiring. Is this the connector you have...

Thanks DavidO and Ronanmd1. This is great advice. I have a couple questions. David-How much did you pay for the Marineco plug. I can't find it for less than $50! Also, did you notice its only rated for 40 amps? You said you pull more than that. Ronanmd1- Which anderson connector did you use...

I wasn't questioning your trimetric but the way your batteries failed. A normal battery life should decrease slowly. With the trimetric I am assuming you should notice the battery is unable to get back to 100% to the point where you would have to reset the trimetric to the battery's full capacity.

Thanks RC Pilot Jim. I'm surprised your battery is going after 3 years but I guess it's not the age but the amount of cycles that is important. Since you have the trimetric, did you notice it stopped going back to 100% slowly over time or did it just fail in a short time?

Yea. I hoping that if we get enough data we can see some trends.

This may be one step towards obsessive at this point but I can't decide if I want to stick with flexible panels or move to another option. Renogy gave me the option to return my still working panel minus a 10% restocking fee towards a foldable solar suitcase. The major downside is I only get the...

I'm happy with mine. I left my camper plugged in for 5 months without checking and once I did everything was working as expected. This is a cheap upgrade.

Thanks. I can't imagine not getting at least 0.75 amp to the separator. Seems much more likely to be voltage related.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Charging Issues

Can you explain why this is significant? Does that mean it gives 0.75 amps of resistance or does it just have to over come the resistance before the curcuit is closed? Or neither?

Ron- If it's recommended to not put the separator in the engine bay maybe you should just do the wire sizing first. Just a suggestion.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Charging Issues

This seems like a great idea but you will still lose some charging potential. I'm having the same problem described in this post and I am planning on just adding a second 10 gauge wire. I am not sure what gauge that would be equivalent to but I am hoping it will keep my voltage high enough to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electrical confusion...

Not trying to start a flood of returns but Renogy told me they would take their panel back in exchange for a rigid panel. Their flexible panel may be questionable but their customer service is not.

I've been wondering if Renogy would trade me my working flexible panel for one of their folding panels. I think I'll send them an email.

I would guess the loss is from the pwm charge controller mostly and a tiny amount from voltage drop.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar - informal survey of brands and customer satisfaction

I'm not worried about the fabric failing, just the things holding it. I contacted tech support about the velcro's ability to bond with TPT plastic (What the Renogy panel is made of) and they said that it is not advised. Maybe they are covering their behind but I'm just scared to try on a raised...
