RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerators revisited

The batteries shouldn't even be considered a cost since you need that anyways. The solar can be had fir as cheap as $100 for a 100 w panel and $30 for a controller. I have plenty of money left for beer when I don't have to buy propane.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Running heavier wire for solar panels

I'm surprised that no one with a trimetric posted a real life voltage drop to this thread. One could simply remove the plug from the roof and take a reading at the plug and then another measurement at the charge controller to see how much volts/amps were actually lost. We could then compare that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Charcoal Grill Lovers, Let Me See Your Setup

I'm loving these ideas! Where are you guys putting these in your camper? Can the homemade box fit where the potti usually goes? What about NoPlanMan? What do you do with the rest of your stuff like charcoal etc?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Charcoal Grill Lovers, Let Me See Your Setup

I see most people seem to like propane grills but I'm just not a fan. I currently use a Webber "Smokey Joe" with my favorite charcoal/hardwood of the month. I put this in a big plastic tupperware with my cooking tools, tin foil and some other items. The only down side is that it takes up a lot...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerators revisited

I just want to add my vote for a 2-way AC/DC fridge. I think most of the pros and cons have been discussed. I think the initial effort of this method are indeed significant but the ability to set your fridge and forget about it is wonderful. I love that I don't really have to worry about the...

Couple questions: What type of velcro did you use? How hard is it to pull the panel off with the amount of velcro you used? Thanks as I really want to do this. Please keep us updated and maybe consider making a new thread. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one interested.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Installing Hawk on First Gen Tundra

How much is the installation package from them? I remember it being very pricey. I'm all about supporting the "little guy" but I'm all about saving money too.

I think this may be a good idea if velcro is really desired. We would just have to find an adhesive that works on TPT plastic and whatever the velcro is made of.

Here is a post I made about using velcro with these panels. Let me know if you find anything different: http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/9373-bendable-solar-panels-and-compressor-refrigerators/?p=115621

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Installing Hawk on First Gen Tundra

I can help with any specific questions. It's really a straight forward install. Put the caper on the truck and find a good spot to put the eye bolts. Make sure they are a good distance from the camper's eye bolt and at an angle. Think of it like pulling from the corners to hold it steady. Also...

Bittersweet news. Thats two people with bad panels posting this week. Sounds like its due to a known issue that was corrected by Renogy so maybe we shouldn't worry. Maybe you could post a picture of what the new ones look like so those of us with older models know if we are at risk.

I'm totally making a door handle now. Great idea and great work. I wouldn't mind having a rollover couch. I know you used some of the parts on the door handle but do you have any of it left over?

That's great if they fix it. I just hope they have an explanation for why. I want to be able to trust my panels when I'm in the middle of nowhere.

I think I actually quadruple checked the wiring in every place I could. I opened the mc4 connectors and tested there but I did not pierce any of the wire farther back. I didn't want to expose the wire to the elements as these live on the roof. Plus if this is the problem it should be a warranty...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2015 Tundra Crewmax

What will you be doing with the truck other than camping? Will it be used for daily driving? If the camper will be on there forever you can change the suspension to meet your needs. You can even change the brakes to meet your needs if needed if there is a kit out. Im not familiar since i'm in a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2015 Tundra Crewmax

I think you need to consider your desired use for the truck overall. If you plan to tow additional weight or carry large loads you will need to go with a 3/4 or 1 ton. If you need the truck as a daily driver when the camper is off, you may do better with a Tundra or a full size diesel with good...

I had a chance to help DonC this weekend and wanted to share my observations for an update in case anyone else has input. Charging from the truck, in my observation, seems to be working correctly. Battery was at 65% of charge according to trimetric and was taking in between 7-10 amps with the...

Its a little hard for me to follow online but I live in Redlands too. I wouldn't mind coming over and giving a hand and second opinion. I'm far from expert but have my own solar setup and lots of wiring bits. Two heads are better than one.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What's your go-to lock lubricant for your camper and truck locks?

Good tip. I'm going to try this seeing as how I'm starting to have this problem. Another fellow camper said he takes his entire for lock apart every year but I haven't tried that yet. Thanks
