RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roamin chariot inside updates

Hi Mikeje, The RC looks like a nice lightweight rig! I hope you find some fun inspiration here. It wouldn't bee too tough to add a propane tank (isolated from the interior), sink with a bucket underneath, single burner stove, and heater to your rig. That's my idea of a fully furnished...

I've been following that tread (threads?) too. Yeah, that's what I've read consistently & it makes sense... they just staple the bottom plywood up into the sides; it'll flex in the middle and could pull away from the sides w/ weight or impact. And The aluminum in the framing at each corner...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1980 Granby Rebuild for 2nd Gen Tacoma

Updates today! Marker lights are on and soldered. We're using a 4 pin trailer harness to run the markers and a set of tail lights since this thing sticks out just past the end of the tailgate. We found some markers that fit the existing screw holes (2.5" apart)! I used 3m 5200 to glue a...

Roxy, it's much easier to upload photos with the mobile app (at least if you have an Android phone/tablet). I don't even try doing photos via the browser and I'm very tech savvy. Lol.

Thanks both of ya'! I hope to have more updates soon. My wife is onboard for us trying to make more headway, but it's hard to make time... Only thought with the cubbies is that maybe they'd be easier to clean out without the lip along the bottom. They were the best way I could think of to...

Yeah, my wife has a light-duty sewing machine so I bought the supplies and made it work. It's not installed yet, but came out pretty good. I'm only into it probably $350 for materials. Your canvas looks like it's in quite a bit better shape than mine was... Some of the guides I've seen...

Cleaning and fixing any damage * Mineral spirits worked well to remove old butyl residue * Gasket remover and mechanical scraping to remove silicone crap. * Not sure if it's best, but I wiped down the silicon areas with acetone, changing rags a few times, to try to remove any residue. * Scrape...

I just bought the stuff to do mine with conduit today. It feels pretty strong... It crossed my mind to use spring tensioned screen door hinges with some kind of lightweight plywood panels... There are probably lots of ways to do this.

That's looking good! Are you going to add new siding below the existing stuff or replace all of it? I'd expect the existing will look good flattened out w/ fresh paint.

I'm more the 1 and a half heavy coats type, but I like the spray Rust-Oleum too. It come to out great if you prep the metal properly before you spray it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1980 Granby Rebuild for 2nd Gen Tacoma

Slow and steady. I made a goal to paint the siding this week, so spent a couple evenings: * Cleaning rest of the old butyl tape residue off with mineral spirits. The mineral spirits made supper easy work if this once the bulk was removed by scraping. * Removing silicon crap from around where...

This has definitely crossed my mind. If you go through one of their distributors, you can get 10+ ft lengths. If you're camper is old enough to have a flat top, you cold screw a couple of these to the entire length of the top to strengthen it as well proving convenient mounting for solar. The...

All of your before photos look eerily familiar! Your camper came out great! Did you have to do any refurbishment of the windows? A couple of mine have trim around the glass that is dried out and shrunken.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1980 Granby Rebuild for 2nd Gen Tacoma

I flipped over the camper yesterday and finally am able to start figuring out how to do the inside. The camper is long for my truck; it sticks out 6" past the end of the tailgate, so I'm trying to keep weight forward as much as possible. The cab overhang is 24", but in thinking I'll make the...

It's raining all week here, so work is at a standstill for now. The tub is pretty much done and attached to the frame. It'll still get some bits at the ends to attach the interior panels to and improve strength, especially around the front door to keep it from twisting or flexing.

Looking at all that steel and having seen some of the corrosion on my (30 year old) frame just from the staples holding on the siding, you might want to take extra steps to either keep moisture out or isolate aluminum from the steel. What're your thoughts on this? First idea that pops into my...

Stan, heads-up on this one: https://goldcountry.craigslist.org/rvs/6869536953.html They'll take $375 for them & says they're in good working order. I'm not sure what make they are or if that's a good deal.
