RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Firearms into Canada

I cross into Canada 6 or more times a year, and all my experiences have been pleasant. They always ask about guns or knives. I would think if you were bringing a gun into Canada for personal protection, you would raise a few eyebrows. You probably have a better chance at winning the lottery, than...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suggestions needed: I've got $80 gift card for local Army Surplus store!

Signal mirror? If hurt or lost and aircraft are looking for you. Those aluminum surplus tent stakes are the best!! Para cord. I was born in 1947, the surplus stores had great stuff left over from WWII. As a kid I loved to spend time at them.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Keystone Roof Help

I'm guessing you would see prices between 1 and 2 thousand dollars to replace the canvas. Quite a few of us has done it ourselves for probably less than $300. Here's how 1 member did it. http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/15594-total-pop-up-material-replacement-purchasing-to-finishing/

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Keystone Roof Help

First thing I'd do is to remove all the old caulk and the vents. Clean all the old caulk areas with a fine wire wheel in an electric drill. Get it down to bare metal, then paint the roof. After painting, wipe it down with alcohol and recaulk all the vent, screws etc with Dicor caulk. Don't try...

Curious how you flipped the door. Did you just turn it upside down so the hinges were on the other side? I made a mistake on my door flipping it, then realized the sliding window would allow water to run inside. The upper window should be to the outside of the lower window. You are making great...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Noob question: best truck for a FWC Hawk?

I have a 2016 Silverado 1500 double cab 4x4. After purchase I went to a scale and had it weighed. With me in it, 230#'s, the truck weighed 5680#'s. The sticker in the glove box recommends a slide in camper weight of 1000#;s. I tend to think they are conservative with camper weight, as they have...

The ad shows 2 Ford Bronco models, a 1976 and earlier, and a 77 and later. So the ad would have to be 77 or later I would assume. The Fleet model in the picture shows it on an import truck. Can anybody identify that truck and possibly the model year by the vinyl trim on the door and front fender?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1980 FWC Keystone - Getting this old beast up to par.

I wouldn't use silicone caulking.on the roof or any penetrations of the roof. Personally I prefer Dicor. There are other sealants also that would be better on your roof.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refurbishing 1993 Dodge Ram W250 1st Gen Diesel - Seeking Advice (status update)

I bought a Dodge W250 with the Cummins new in 1989. First trip with the wife, " why did they put a radio in this, you can't even hear it?" LOL! I had an excavating business at the time and it was a great truck for that purpose, but it sure was noisy and road like a buckboard. The early 12...

I have the same badge on mine. The date is 1979. I screwed it back onto the side of the camper.

Tim, I'm amazed you were able to do these videos during your project. I struggled just doing the build. Can't imagine trying to video my progress.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fleet Tacoma Bucking/Shuddering/Bouncing

Not sure if you have much experience on concrete roadways in northern freezing climates. Heavy truck traffic and frost does heave the roads and causes the bucking. It's a common scene in the northeast to see concrete roadways being repaired due to heaving at the joints. I run I-81 from PA all...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Flatbed Discussion

I don't think you can weld a steel nut to aluminum. Maybe a better idea is to drill and tap a flat piece of steel for the bolt you want to use. Then have the flatbed fabricator make a pocket for it to fit into with a little wiggle room. You could position the camper, then use an awl to center...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Posting pictures?

I've read that post, but it doesn't address the photo size. When I try to upload a photo it always says too big a file. What I have to do is open my picture in the windows "paint" program and resize it. Most of my build photos were done with my Iphone 7. I have found I need to reduce the photo...

My 2016 Chevy Z71 also bucks on I-81 when towing my boat, no camper onboard. Packrat is right on, but bad suspension can be another problem. I-81 is terrible up in the Scranton area of PA. Rt 322 west of Harrisburg, PA used to be bad also. They overlaid the concrete with asphalt and no more...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Flatbed Discussion

He did state this, " The mounting points are being specifically reinforced for the application, so there will be plenty of aluminum there." So I would assume a tapped hole would be fine.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Flatbed Discussion

Couldn't the flatbed manufacturer provide a tapped hole to bolt the camper down? Once the camper was aligned properly on the flatbed, a small pilot hole could be drilled up through the threaded hole, then enlarged to the proper size up top. Then bolt it down with some blue loctite.

I know all about I-81 in PA. It's terrible, and guess what? We have the highest gas taxes in the US! An old joke, A Penndot foreman called in one morning to report all their shovels were stolen. He asked what should he do. The supt said just lean on each other till they can get some more...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flawk project: Turning a fleet into a hawk

I also use a laser sight to load my camper. I bought an inexpensive pistol sight and mounted it on a magnet. I place the sight at the center of the bed in the front, then center the laser beam on the center of the tailgate. When backing up to the camper I just keep the laser beam in the center...
