RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Installing roof, with or without lift panels?

I don't envy you this process. This is probably a bit off topic. If the roof is off, the vinyl siding is going to be replaced, you're going to put tracks or aluminum tubing for a rack on the roof, why use the quirky FWC panels? It seems to me that someone came up with this idea in the 70s...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Electrical Array - Laid out correctly?

Thanks camelracer. Your comment made me do a deeper web search. Renology recommends a fuse between the panels and controller. And I will downsize the 100 amp to a 40 amp fuse between the controller and battery based on their recommendation...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Electrical Array - Laid out correctly?

Hi Captm: I'm not sure what you're suggesting. The starting battery is on the left, and the auxiliary/camper battery is on the right in the drawing. Jeff...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Electrical Array - Laid out correctly?

Here's a schematic of the solar electrics I'll be installing in my 80s Keystone. I think I have everything laid out correctly. I'd appreciate any suggestions/improvements. Thanks... Jeff Laramie, WY

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Full build - Reconstructing a 1981 Grandby into a custom Hawk!

I'm wondering if fore/aft 1" box aluminum attached to the exterior of the roof wouldn't beef up the roof frame. Also, could such a channel serve as foundation for attaching solar panels or racks? Just curious if anyone has tried this. Jeff... Laramie, WY

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 80s Keystone - new canvas - 36" struts - can I gain more height? and other questions...

Hi Poky - thanks for your insights. Luckily I'm trashing the lift panels and using EMT along the long sides. A previous owner fabricated his own lift panels with no hinge in the middle. Maybe it's me, but it seems the FWC lift panel concept is pretty quirky. I think what'll work is once...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 80s Keystone Floorpack Question

I'm tearing apart the interior of my 80s Keystone. A previous owner narrowed the floorpack to fit modern pickups. He took the vertical supports all the way back to the part that covers the taillights. In the attached picture this will probably make more sense. From the front of the camper...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 80s Keystone - new canvas - 36" struts - can I gain more height? and other questions...

I've got an 80s FWC Keystone. The roof is off and stripped. I am replacing the canvas as part of the rebuild. I'm using 36" struts to help support 100 - 120 pounds./480 watts of solar panels and mounting/reinforcing channel, home made sliders to raise the panels, and so on. there will...
