RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1980 FWC Keystone - Getting this old beast up to par.

This project is not dead, but it's at a bottleneck. Insulation has been replaced and cushions are in the process of being redone. I've decided to redo the wood on the entire underside. The water damage is too extensive for my liking, so it will all need to be replaced with new material. Over the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Newbie, doing a full teardown of an 80's Keystone

Really enjoy seeing your progress. I've got mine on a 96 F250 with a 7.3. I don't know what the exact MPG is, but it's not far off from norm. You'll see a big difference if you put the Keystone behind a bigger engine for sure.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1980 FWC Keystone - Getting this old beast up to par.

Got some more work done, fixed the door up and replaced the door handle with one that now locks with a key. A FWC is not a vault, but it won't cause me sleepless nights if I leave a tool or two back there now. The big observation of the day's work yesterday was the propane system. I always...

Most of the insulation is now replaced and T&G is sitting there ready to be installed after. Today I thought it would be a good idea to do new guts on the door. Poor choice of a project with today's winds. More time was spent chasing components around the parking lot. We'll see what tomorrow holds.

Isn't that a lot of camper to be rear of the axle?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What are the odds?

As a cheap backup plan for the future, I've had luck applying blue Dawn dish soap on poison ivy. Just apply it strait to the blisters and it draws out the oils and dries faster than it does on its own.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Petition for thoughts on truck bed trailers for pseudo off-road duty...

Turns out opportunity made my mind up for me. I was able to trade into a small homemade off-road trailer. Nothing fancy, but it'll to the job AND I was able to trade some things taking up space in the storage unit. That's a big bonus and sweetened the deal on my end. I'll make another thread...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Petition for thoughts on truck bed trailers for pseudo off-road duty...

This is helping me to explore my options. I'm not 100% set on a DS before this move, so it's not going to break my heart if I don't drop the cash on one. I think I can also get away with a smaller trailer for spares, fluids, maint. equipment, etc. and still be able to convert the hubs and have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West SOLD - Leer 8' Camper Top

Camper top is no longer available. Will edit if deal falls through. Thanks for looking. --------------------------------------- Unsure of year, but it fits an 8' 96 F250 bed just fine. Has sliding cab window, single lock on hatch (no key), and no structural issues I know of. Drove it out to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1980 FWC Keystone - Getting this old beast up to par.

Almost forgot. This little guy recently got a new home. It's a Singer 500A that will allow me to sew the siding for the pop up as well as new curtains, awning, other small projects related to the build, and any number of unrelated items. There's a local sew shop that gives lessons, so I'll be...

If I replaced the window like I mentioned, that would allow for a more comfortable back rest to be built either side of the passthrough. I sat there and imagined the seat being used for morning coffee and being able to see through the various windows. I like this plan. Man, the meat and...

Thank you all for your replies. It's great to get so many perspectives on different parts and ideas. After the coffee was all drained this morning I made my way outside and started to tear out more of the interior. I'm going to be out with work for a couple weeks, so I wanted something I could...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Petition for thoughts on truck bed trailers for pseudo off-road duty...

No kids on any trip I know about! I am indeed more interested in using the same tires and wheels than I am the same axle. That would just be an incidental bonus of using the same era donor.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Petition for thoughts on truck bed trailers for pseudo off-road duty...

That's a valid point. I think the same wheels and tires I'm running now would be low enough on a bed with stock height and the right ramp. Combined with a winch it should be very doable. Part of the thinking on this "project" is to accommodate a move that will take place in a little less than...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Petition for thoughts on truck bed trailers for pseudo off-road duty...

As a kid, they were always seen as a "redneck" (I don't personally consider that moniker derogatory) trailer, and not really something that was used for tasks more serious than dump runs. These days people are making some pretty slick looking conversions. When I weigh the factors of intended...
