RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First trip to DVNP questions

Doing the Lippencott Road in a full size truck with a camper? Really? I haven't been up there in quite a few years. It that advisable?

Look up a company called Velvac for towing mirrors. They might have something.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Putting together a flat bed camper

Thanks, Mike. Off the rack for the bed, and looks like the camper may be a custom build anyway. I don't plan on taking the camper off, I want it bolted to the bed. I'm a contractor, I have other flat bed trucks if I need a utility truck. This is to be a designated camping vehicle.

I was told I had to use the dealer in Azusa, no?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Putting together a flat bed camper

Thanks to all. Honestly, I had eliminated XP from my list as they seemed too pricey, like way more than the others. It seems strange to buy the bed through them, but the camper? Good point. It's not a dually. Single rear tires. Harder to change a flat off road with duals, too. Checked XP...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flat bed camper project

Per a suggestion, I'm starting this thread for my own information, as well as to avail information to others. So, I got a killer deal on a very low mileage F-350, 4x4, 4 door truck. It currently has a steel/stake flat bed and all steel lift gate. I thought maybe the bed and lift gate might...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Where to buy an aluminum flat bed?

I live in Los Angeles. Checked the Internet, couldn't find anyone selling them around here. No one here builds trucks custom. I asked both FWC and ATC via email, no definite response. It's like they don't want to make a solid suggestion. And XP Camper's prices on everything scare me. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Off-roading these campers

Depends on the condition of the Saline Valley road. When it's been recently graded, you can go in with the family car. But mix in a thunderstorm or two, and snowy passes, and it can be a whole new ballgame.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Putting together a flat bed camper

I bought a F-350 flat bed and am looking for info on mounting a camper on it. The bed currently is a steel frame stake bed with a lift gate. I want to take that off and either replace it with an aluminum flat bed and camper, or a chassis mount. I've likely ruled out the latter idea, there...

Jim, that's a solid endorsement. I'm definitely leaning towars FWC. Going to their distributor in Southern California this weekend.

Thanks for all the positive feedback. Can I ask some other questions? The F-350 I bought currently has a heavy duty steel flat bed with heavy duty lift gate. I want to remove that bed and lift, replace with aluminum flat bed and camper. (I considered a chassis mount, but those units seem...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Turkey Cooking while Wandering

C Hunter, I know you would agree, if people knew how great this thing is, they'd run out and get one. I've given out a half dozen as gifts, 100% great feedback. For my current small camper, I wrap it in an old blanket, store it with the sleeping bags and bedding. Gotta have that baby for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Where to buy an aluminum flat bed?

As stated elsewhere herein, I'm putting together an F-350 camper. Who sells/installs the aluminum flat beds? Hopefully in Southern California? (Though I'd go wherever necessary.). I googled relevant topics and had confusing results. Is there a preferable size/style?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Turkey Cooking while Wandering

I've been using a Charbroiled Big Easy for years for turkey feasts on Thanksgiving camping trips. The thing works fantastically. Hooks to a propane tank. 100% satisfaction because it works so well. Not just for turkey. We've put chicken, whole fish, prime rib, tri-tip, etc. I'm no shill...

Is that Steel Pass? So in your Saline excursions nothing severe has happened to the FWC? How many trips has it endured?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Off-roading these campers

I've begun building an overland style camper on an F-350 4x4. Thinking of the All Terrain Campers v. Four Wheel Camper. Question is.....which one will hold up to Saline Valley off roading trips. Saline is washboard, washboard, washboard. 50 miles each way. Which camper will hold up to...
