RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West hooking up solar plug

My solar panel is 200W. The plug was installed by FWC at the factory with 14 gauge wire. I realize that the 30 amp fuse holder is overkill connected to that circuit, but it will work fine with a lower rated fuse. Now I am wondering if the 200W panel may be too powerful for the 14 gauge wire. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West hooking up solar plug

What I am wondering is why are folks on this forum recommending a 30 amp fuse if the FWC wiring can only handle 15 amps without heating up?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West hooking up solar plug

OK my solar plug is now connected. I put a put a 30 amp fuse on the wire from the back plug to the positive terminal as recommended. I used a fuse holder for 12v DC with 10 gauge wire rated for 30 amps. My guy noted that the wiring FWC installed for the solar plug is 14 gauge which is rated for...

Thank you, Paul. Fusing the wires sounds like good advice. Stuff happens, after all.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West hooking up solar plug

I have the controller. It is already connected to the solar panel. When I am ready to go I have only to plug the controller into the rear solar plug on my Grandby. Right now I just want to connect the rear solar plug on the camper to the batteries. The camper was delivered with the plug wires...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West hooking up solar plug

I'm ready to hook up my solar panel plug to the batteries in my Grandby. The camper shipped with the wires to the plug unconnected. Before I do anything foolish, can anyone guide me as where to connect the wires? I assume they connect directly to the battery terminals, correct? I have two of the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Velcro for cold weather pack

My Grandby was delivered without cold weather pack installed because it was on back order. I received the cold weather pack in the mail some weeks later. The Grandby has the Velcro along the sides but there is no Velcro on the front or back. Is this correct? I know the cold weather pack should...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West It's the little things!

Received the 5 gal Luggable Loo today. It fits perfectly tucked under the end the couch in my Grandby. Actually takes up less floor space than the Thetford Porta Potty. Now what to do with the like new never used Thetford? Pawn shop, yard sale, or eBay, maybe.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Advice to prospects and buyers of campers with compressor refrigerators

I suppose if I'm desperate I could always toss a couple of chunks of dry ice in the fridge and turn it off.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West It's the little things!

I have a 2014 Grandby. If the dimensions listed on Amazon are correct the 5 gallon Luggable Loo should fit. Loo: H 15.6" X W 13.5" - space under end of couch H 17.25 X W 14.25". Looks like an ideal match. I will be lining the loo with wag bags so there will be no flushing at home or elsewhere...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West It's the little things!

After reading the posts on this thread I went out and took a closer look at the porta potty I got from FWC. It looks like it would be difficult to use without having a horrible mess to contend with. I don't even see how I could fit a wag bag in it, so I went on Amazon and ordered one of those...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Buyers regret?

Screen door doesn't impede ingress/egress because it attaches to the rear door so that they open and close as one unit. My only complaint about the screen door is that it is cumbersome to open/close because it lacks a handle, which is why I bought this...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Advice: Preping new camper

Furnace - Yes, run it for a while before your trip. Mine set off the smoke detector the first couple of times I used it. This gave me the impetus to learn how to shut it off. Water tank - Fill and drain with a bleach solution is a good idea if you intend to drink the water from the tank...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Buyers regret?

I would have liked to get the fiberglass siding and the flush mount appliances, but I think I would have regretted spending the extra cash even more. I was able to buy some great stuff with the money I saved. My biggest regret is the depressingly dark and ugly sponge granite counter tops. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West how to remove mirror?

I finally got the mirror off the lift panel. I mustered the courage to pull it off with some force. The funhouse effect disappeared once the mirror was off - the lift panel must have caused it to flex when it was attached. It was attached with two long adhesive strips and four HUGE globs of some...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West design flaw?

Update: The fridge shelf is indeed plastic coated metal. Today I was successful in removing it by twisting it at an odd angle. I was able to put it back in although not at the level/position I wanted. I have a degree in computer science but I can't get a shelf in and out of a fridge. Life is an...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West design flaw?

Can the door be popped off easily? If so, there is no need to reverse it. I can simply pop off the door whenever I want to change the shelf level.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West design flaw?

The shelf is just molded plastic - looks like clear styrene. I don't see door reversal as an option. It would make it more difficult to access the fridge inside the camper if the door opened the other way. Sooner or later I'll just remove the shelf and leave it out.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West design flaw?

I have a 2014 Grandby with Dometic 65 liter refrigerator/freezer. The Dometic has a shelf which can be removed and reinserted at different levels to make space for different sized products in the fridge. FWC installed the fridge at a position in the camper so that the fridge door cannot be...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Matress options for 1990 Hawk

I leave the bedding on my 2014 Grandby including a comforter and it closes no problem. I take the pillows off, though. There must be room to spare because FWC ships campers to their dealers with the disassembled table underneath the mattress cushions. I intend to purchase one of those 5 1/2"...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Matress options for 1990 Hawk

Memory foam RV mattresses. Many sizes available including 30" X 75". Different options for firmness also. Thickness is 5 1/2". I don't know how that will work for your Hawk but 3/4 full should work well for my Grandby. http://www.mattressinsider.com/memory-foam-rv-mattresses.html
