RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Which truck to buy for Four Wheel Hawk Camper

@Texan76, Compared to other brands of campers the FWCs are lighter and the shell versions are even lighter, but I wouldn't say a fully loaded Hawk or Granby is "very light." Like I said before my Hawk fully loaded with propane, water, food, gear for a week long trip will be over 1,600 lbs. A...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Arcing/Popping when plugging in Hawk

Thanks for the info Phil. My camper is less than a month old so I hope there isn't a short behind the panel due to wires rubbing together. I'll keep it in mind though for the future.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Which truck to buy for Four Wheel Hawk Camper

My Hawk with a full tank of water and no other gear in it is right at 1450 lbs. I carry it on my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel and it's a lot of weight. I notice it on my truck when I drive in city traffic with the bumps and dips. It's not bad, but I wouldn't want it on a half ton especially...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Arcing/Popping when plugging in Hawk

I just checked my Hawk. When I am plugged into shore power the green light on my IOTA DLS-30 smart charger is on regardless if the master switch is in or out.

I think the converter is still active even if the master switch is off. I also think the master switch controls power to all the equipment and not the converter. I could be wrong and will check tomorrow.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West External or Internal mounted gas struts (roof lifter thingies)?

I do the same thing as Rotti with my Hawk. Unless you have gear on top I'm not sure why the struts are needed. They're pretty easy to push up. I may add them for my wife though. Trick is to push the bed in and put one knee on the bench and lean forward with one hand on the cross member and one...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Arcing/Popping when plugging in Hawk

I will agree that it's annoying, but not the end of the world. If there was a switch outside of the camper that would toggle off the IOTA charger just before you plug in the camper it would work perfectly. I might consider adding a switch to do this under the camper that is accessible when you...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Arcing/Popping when plugging in Hawk

When I plug my Hawk in at home to 110 volt with the yellow cord to an extension chord I get a pop and a bit of an arc and a blue flash (at night). When I look at the terminals of the plugs I'm also seeing some charring on one of the terminals on both sides of the short yellow chord. So...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk Exterior Compartment Lock Replacement

Any thief willing to damage the camper to get in, can and will get into that or even my truck. The lock is to keep those clever thieves with the CH751 key in hand and kids willing to vandalize things. As far as value I agree the stuff isn't that valuable while sitting at my house, but if it...

I also removed all of the FWC stickers too so that in time and with age they didn't look bad and start to crack and peel.

Has anyone read Mello Mike's article on lock replacement and replaced theirs? http://mellomikeswolfcreekcamper.blogspot.com/2013/03/replacing-your-worthless-ch751-rv-locks.html I just replaced three of my CH751 locks and I wanted to give a HUGE recommendation for Industrial Lock and Hardware...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Block Heaters and Generators

Someone on Turbo Diesel Registry said the Dodge block heater was somewhere in the 700-750 watt range. I could see the Ford being closer to 1000 watts though. I thought about this too and had a thought. Would it be possible to connect an 1000 watt inverter to the two batteries of my Hawk to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Questions

I'm really attracted to the Global Solar panels, but the idea of adhering them to the roof scares me a little bit. What happens if they are damaged or short out and need to be replaced? What is the efficiency of them compared to a rigid solar panel that is mounted above a roof with air flowing...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC Hawk Options - Now vs Later?

Kilr0y, The garden hose takes up quite a bit of room compared to this (plus I hate garden hoses), especially since I already have a 15 foot potable water hose in the exterior storage box. Plus any type of hose seems to have a memory of the coil when it was stored. The inner tube hangs...

I made my own from supplies from the hardware store. After my first trip I found I need to make some changes. I'll do the changes tomorrow and get some picts up on the new one. FYI - the hose is simple clear hose with 5/8" ID (I think). The new one will have the first section made of PVC and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2014 FWC Updates?

When I read these recent camper changes: http://www.fourwheelcampers.com/index.php/latest-news/latest-news-1/ it looks like they've been doing it at least since I picked up mine on Dec 23rd. My Hawk has most if not all of these upgrades to the standard equipment and the options that I chose.

Another question... I was told to use a pressure reducer if I connect the camper to a pressurized faucet. I doubt I'll ever to that, but I want to have a pressure reducer in the camper just in case. What should the pressure be reduced to?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lagun Cockpit Table

Anyone know if the Lagun will work with a roll over couch? It seems like you'd have to shim the base of the table bracket out so the table post will clear the seat cushion of the roll over couch.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West lookn at a dodge 2500 sd hemi, manual 4x4

My diesel is barely louder than a V8, the exhaust doesn't smell like the old diesels (I like the smell actually) and the expense...well that is true. RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tacoma cold weather start

That's so cold that I doubt the block heater in my diesel would be able to warm the engine. Here in coastal CA we're having the best or worst winter I've ever seen; depends what you like. Days are warm and clear which is nice but we haven't had more than an inch or two of rain in probably 8-10...

Anyone have recommendations for some carpeting I can put into the camper (over the vinyl) that is waterproof and will not let water seep through and onto the floor? I can picture using the camper on a hunting trip where it'll be super muddy and rainy.
