here's how I reasoned my solar system: the solar panels need to be matched to the battery size which should be matched to the daily demand (or multiple of) the limiting factors are battery dimensions and roof square footage. a size GC12 battery is about tops for a pair of 12 volts, 6 volts...

great point Lighthawk! i've been considering upgrading the turnbuckles from 5/16" to 3/8" stock and may just reconsider this after reading this post. the turnbuckles are a better failure point than the camper or bed mounts and well engineered then I must say to the FWC crew

do the panels your talking about doing this with have junction boxes on the front or back of the panels? flexible panels installed directly on the roof would seal the holes from the racks and be more secure aerodynamicaly

this sounds like an electrical drain (short) somewhere in the wiring systems. maybe test all the 12v circuit breaker fuse taps for continuity to ground shorts with an audible voltmeter. the house battery Ah total maybe too small for the daily loads to recover from deep discharge to full...

did you wire the fan into the compressor positive so that it only runs when the compressor kicks in?

is the issue that the ventilation fans are not on a thermostat and therefore run all the time draining the battery bank?

here's where my tiedowns are in my 2006 silverado 6.5' bed. about 45deg forward and back to cover braking and accelaration forces and then to the side to clear the bed. my e-tracks were in prior to the tiedowns and didn't interfere with the factory backing plates.
