RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Show me your camper risers.

Sorry, this isn't intended to be a thread hijack but... in the middle picture, what kind of setup do you have for your turn buckle sliding doors? Looks completely different from my 2004 Hawk. Feel free to private message if you wish to not further my hijack! Fred

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Broken turnbuckle attachment

I went to nylon wingnuts as lock nuts after reading someones recommendation here on the forum. They are easy to loosen and tighten by hand, don't feel a heavier grade metal fastener is needed to just hold the turnbuckle in place. I have driven probably close to 50,000 miles using the nylon...

Smoke and N'kwala: any possibility of pictures showing which screws came loose and.. Was there any tactile warning like a loose handle prior to the handle sticking? Thanks!! Fred

Would you happen to have any pictures of your design?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I thought California to Alaska was cool and then......

Yep, the Dalton Highway was the same last year (early September) but the last 40 miles were washboard crazy! Some roads in town of Deadhorse were even worse. Dunno if you saw a grader working the bad section but one was there on my way in and out last year. Maybe a full time job.

Sorry read this too early in the morning. It's the Yak fairing I assume. Fred

I'd be interested in a link to the wind fairing you purchased. Thanks! Fred

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Leaky sliding window

Stan, Is the same front sliding window in use now which is on my 2004 Hawk? Mine leaks badly but don't want to get my hopes up for this fix if it isn't even the same window. Thank you, Fred

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rear Door Seal Replacement

I purchased mine from Tom in Parts at 4WC back in '10. The key to getting the right gasket was knowing the door manufacturer (if I recall correctly that long ago). He knew which type of gasket to send and did. Mine was made by Phillips. I took my door apart at opposite corners to access the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Not Blaming my Hawk but....

Thanks for bringing this back to the top, joe b. Just got done doing a 700 mile trip with the camper off for the first time since my original post regarding the problem with the camper on...... and the same thing happens on concrete as with the camper on. So, dunno if it would be better or...

Thanks everyone! Guess I am not alone on this one but finding the cure looks questionable. For now, shocks it is. Fred

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Not Blaming my Hawk but....

I just returned from AK to WI after working there for the summer. Took my 2005 Hawk on my 2006 Tundra double cab and all went very well. Once I got back towards the midwest with their concrete roads I developed (or noticed)a rapid bounce in the vehicle timed exactly with the size of the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Broken Elevator Bolt

Excellent food for thought here Stan. Thanks! I actually discovered my broken elevator bolt after doing half of the Dalton Highway in Alaska as far as Coldfoot. No off roading but plenty of frost heaves that snuck up on me and washboard roads on steep up and downhill grades. Those probably...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Broken Elevator Bolt

Yes, I ordered the McMaster Carr square base bolts intending to do a permanent fix later, but am having doubts about the low strength given mine sheared off. Guess I should have contacted 4WC to get tensile strength and hardness specs on their flat head (elevator) bolts before ordering from...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Broken Elevator Bolt

This is the part which attaches to the eyelet on the outside of our campers which the turnbuckles attach to. I am doing a poor job of describing it but it's the flat topped bolt which goes thru from the inside of the camper to the eyelet. Anyway, one of mine broke at the point where the base...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone With "Drymesh" Experience?

Has anyone invested in this system and how has it worked out in cool humid environments? I am leaving for Denali Park, AK May 1 and plan to camp along the way and will be using it there thru September. http://www.drymesh.net/ I have factory 2" foam and am looking for something that will...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West mattress condensation

Sorry griz, my most important questions are "has anyone used the DryMesh system in humid environments and does it work? And can the roof be lowered keeping one layer of DryMesh in place." I was up early and not the most direct in my message. The most important things to me are: 1) having...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West mattress condensation

So forgive my thinking out loud but: The size needed (in order to not have to overlap thicknesses of the slats/mesh when bed is closed would be the exact size of the bed when closed)? And to lessen height interference when folding down the roof? Then when sliding out the bed you just pull it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2nd Spare Tire

Well, these have all been great and very helpful replies! I am leaning towards a patch and pump setup also. Time constraints before I have to leave, much less weight and cost are the main factors. I may wish I'd done it differently in the end but others experience (particularly on the Dalton)...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2nd Spare Tire

I have a 2005 Hawk on a 2006 Tundra double cab. Am evaluating doing the Dalton Highway In AK this summer and am wondering: Has anyone found a good place to mount a 2nd spare tire, either on the camper or somewhere else on a double cab (with the camper on)? Have load range E tires and they...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Door Leak Repair

Thanks Steve! I have the exact same leak as you described inside the door of my 2004 Hawk. And it's coming up on the priority list to be repaired within a week. Perfect timing to get me started. And by the way, what year is your Hawk? Fred

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refinishing / Painting base plywood - what to use?

My paint guy asked me if I knew whether the original paint on my 2004 Hawk was oil or latex based. He said only latex should be used if unknown cuz oil based paint won't stick to latex but latex will stick to oil. So, anyone know if oil or latex was used on my Hawk? Thanks gentlemen!! Fred

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Plywood floor thickness?

It has been awhile but I think someone at ATC stated the rigid base was required to maintain the integrity of the aluminum framing. I can’t find the reference but maybe someone from ATC/ Four Wheel can chime in. Comments from 4WC would really be appreciated! Or maybe I'll just call :rolleyes...
