RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC - hitch step options

Karlton, it's hard to see how they would fold up out of the way. Do you mind posting another photo of them folded?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West step stool for 4 Wheel Hawk on back of 2003 tundra

Rico, are these the stairs you have? https://www.etrailer.com/RV-and-Camper-Steps/Brophy/AS23.html These are expensive, but look pretty good. Any issues screwing the mount in below the door of your FWC? Found this oldie...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West step stool for 4 Wheel Hawk on back of 2003 tundra

Having a large (and old) dog does complicate decisions. Before ordering my camper I purchased a set of folding steps for my 10-year-old yellow lab to get into the Tacoma's back seats. http://www.petloader.com They are expensive, but are really sturdy and the dog has no problem. I had tried...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West step stool for 4 Wheel Hawk on back of 2003 tundra

Thanks Gaylon. That does look like a good choice. I see you have some tools mounted to the back of your camper. Have you thought of designing something to attach it to your rear wall steps?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fleet roof measurements for solar panel install?

Ron, that looks really clean and you have some air space under the panel.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West step stool for 4 Wheel Hawk on back of 2003 tundra

This looks like the best idea I have seen yet. For those of us with other trucks and camper models, could you measure the height to the top of the third step?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fleet roof measurements for solar panel install?

So here's my idea for a removable panel mounted on Yak Tracks. Attaching the panels on the aluminum angle "iron" or L-shaped bars seems to be the best method for spanning the tracks, especially for the smaller 100w panels. Instead of attaching the panel to the aluminum bar at several points...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fleet roof measurements for solar panel install?

DonC, thanks for more photos of a Fleet with solar. Interesting to mount the panels front and back and not use the big space in the middle. Is that to balance out the weight? Hadn't thought of that, probably because I'm thinking of putting a 150 or 160 in the middle. Could you tell us which...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fleet roof measurements for solar panel install?

Good idea Craig. I should probably contact FWC as I gather all the parts and pieces together before I leave to pick it up. As my camper is new, it should have everything prewired. From reading other posts it sounds as if all the prewired options (solar, vents, ??) terminate near the batteries or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fleet roof measurements for solar panel install?

Williak, you da Man! Thanks for the measurements and photos of your setup. That is really close to what I want to do and that gives me the info I need to order some panels. I want to never mess with the 160, and then design something for a second panel, maybe semi flexible type for weight, that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fleet roof measurements for solar panel install?

I ordered a fleet with two roof vents and Yakima tracks and am trying to design the solar system before I have the camper installed. I'm driving about 1,500 miles to pick up the camper, and then am continuing on for about another 3,000 miles before returning home. My plan is to bring the panel...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fleet front dinette vs. side dinette

I don't want to take a shower inside the camper so didn't go with the option, but am really looking forward to the outside shower when I'm boondocking.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A few last minute questions before ordering Fleet

I took the plunge and ordered my Fleet. I appreciate so many of you weighing in on the options. Now the fun begins of planning upgrades -- solar -- backup camera, etc. I suspect that these campers are sort of like rare VW campers and sailboats -- places to get rid of large sums of $$$. :)

Thanks for everyone's comments about the differences. They helped me decide to order the front dinette. Now I just have to wait . . .

Looked through the FWC info online but didn't find it. How many AHs are the dual factory AGM batteries advertised to provide?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A few last minute questions before ordering Fleet

Thanks for all the good advice everyone. I'm going to finalize the Fleet build tonight and order tomorrow -- mostly little things to decide at this point, such as interior color, two fans or one fan and a vent, etc. I did hear back from my dealer this morning about a couple of questions I had...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A few last minute questions before ordering Fleet

Now you are making me nervous. I can't imagine having more than two solar panels. Anyone out there with two vents/fans and two solar panels mounted to Yak tracks? Are two panels (not the light flexible panels) too heavy for lifting the top. Is that why FWC goes with one on the roof and a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A few last minute questions before ordering Fleet

I plan on only a solar panel up there -- nothing else. Haven't heard the trick about the turnbuckle doors yet, although I do remember seeing a photo of someone mouse-proofing them. Is there room to store anything in that space? I'm going with the 85 liter Isotherm and solar for the fridge...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Portable Solar vs Roof solar

That panel in the video looks pretty good. It might make a great portable that you could stash on top of the bed when driving. You'd hate to add weight, but you almost need to make a frame around it so you could tip it at angles or mount it. Better yet, string a few together and stretch them...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A few last minute questions before ordering Fleet

Interesting comments about the noise of the fans over the bed. Unless I'm cooking over the campfire I cook every night on the stove, and heat water for coffee every morning. Maybe the answer is one fan in the back and one vent over the bed. Are the vents screened to keep out the blood suckers?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A few last minute questions before ordering Fleet

I have gone through several of the “what do you regret” and “help me decide options” threads over the last couple of days and have learned a ton, but a few questions remain if you FWCers are willing. I’ve given up (I think) looking for a used camper so will be ordering a new Fleet front...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Portable Solar vs Roof solar

Moveinon, sounds like your system works well. When I bought my 160 watt panel about five years ago there wasn't a lot to choose from with the light flexible panels. Four-pound, 100 watt panels seem to be a game changer if they hold up. Sure would be a lot easier to move on and off the roof.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Portable Solar vs Roof solar

Great post and thanks Jim for the great overview and getting this discussion started. This is good timing, because if I don't find a used Fleet soon I am going to order a shiny new one, and am planning to order with Yakima tracks for the sole purpose of being able to easily add my own solar...
