Desert Rancher,where are you in the desert? Lucerne Valley. VOTG is awesome, hard to get the "right" pic's as there are so many different angles. There is a sort of bed and breakfast place there also.

Planning a trip mid-May through the southern part of Utah. Wanted to hit some of the arch places and the "out of the way" sights. Looking for suggestions. Ordered the Utah Back-country Adventures book. Don't have a lot of time to plan.

Right about mid way through VOTG, there are a couple of very short (~1/4 mile) side trails that have good camping. You can camp anywhere along the VOTG's (smooth dirt) road, but it is better if you can get off of the main road just a bit. It's a neat place to see.

SPA has existed for many years now; gone through a few changes, but it's goal remains the same. I believe it is in line with the preservation efforts that you have expressed. It's really a unique area, but it is different than the rest of DV. I vote separate.

Oh, that is so neat. Have always wondered how to see it. A fellow by the name of Skip Hill (RIP) told me about it years ago.

None of the tension cords that pull the liner in when lowering are still around. You can get the stretch cord at REI. Use the hooks from a small bungee cord and you are all set.
