Same here on the solar panel. Mine is on the left rear, less likely to snag branches. Also I keep the tailgate on my truck, sort of like a hobo porch and never worry about the door opening... Jeff

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West My search for another truck

Did you do the chip and air yet? I have also figured that should I want to pull that toyhauler I'm ready but for now the FWC and a 10' trailer with toys is more versatile. I found my 99 with 110k last spring and now have 146,000. Yup. TS 6 position chip, TYMAR intake and Diamond Eye 4"...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West My search for another truck

Last year I began a quest to replace an aging W150 Dodge Power Wagon. I had an older Grandby in great shape that I wanted to keep. Cash was limited, so my plan was to look for the latest model year truck that the camper would fit. According to FWC, that would be a '97 F250/F350. So that began my...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wanting to relocate tie downs

Here is another one of the bottom and the top. Finding the proper location is a bit tricky. You need to be sure you have access underneath and you want the hole to be in the center of the rib on the bed. I also used a piece of rubber between the plate and the bed.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wanting to relocate tie downs

Mine is bolted thru the floor in the four corners. I used 3/8 grade 5 bolts, with a large fender washer on the topside. Underneath, I made some 3x5x3/16 thk steel plates to spread the load across several of the ribs on the bottom side of the bed. You want to be sure that you bolt thru the raised...

Anyone know what size tubing FWC uses? On my old Granby, the alum tubing is 1.0" x .045 wall. Here is a pic, hope this helps.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to seal the gap-camper & truck bed

This effectively keeps all of the dirt and water from getting into the wheel well storage areas. I have used this on several different campers with good success. I used (closed cell) foam rubber pipe insulation. This comes in various sizes at any hardware store. In order to keep the foam in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lift Assists on an old Grandby?

I was wrong. The bed supports swing up towards the center of the bed and then the bed folds down. The mattress extension folds down also and becomes a backrest for the seat. There is a piece of alum. angle that provides a stop so that the handles don't hit the front wall. Anyways my bed always...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lift Assists on an old Grandby?

Right now, I cannot lift the entire top. I can get the back up without a problem as I'm standing right under it. I cannot get the front up though. The wire rod is very flimsy and not up to the task. Also, I can't really get up there to help out any as the bed extends into the living space by a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Exterior Sheet metal screws

You definitely need 8 x 3/4 and some 8 x 1.0 for some areas. 1/2 will not do. I recently did this, but I just used zinc plated steel Phillips head screws from the Depot.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Furnace Problem

I found the motor is a sealed unit with no access to either bushings or bearings. The motor housing has some tabs that are bent over the end plates. The tabs are very easy to bend out with pliers and allow the end plates (with the bearings) to be removed. The bearings can then be cleaned and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Furnace Problem

I'll go one weirder for you. My furnace gets that awful high pitch squeal but only when it's windy out. No wind, no noise. Any thoughts on this one? Has to be the bearings. The grease dries out after time. My guess is that the wind puts a load on the blower when it's running and causes the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Furnace Problem

I have an old Hydroflame in my '86 Grandby. The blower finally seized up and tripped the circuit breaker that is located (hidden) on the back side of the furnace. I took it apart. The blower shaft bearings were dry and gunked up the shaft. A lot of wd40 freed it up. After that I lubed it real...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Battery Charge from Trailer Connector

My F250 with the factory tow package has, 10awg wiring with a 30amp fuse and a (ignition on) relay. It keeps an old battery charged up with no problem.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Battery Charge from Trailer Connector

I have been doing that for awhile with no problems. F250 power stroke diesel. Camper battery is mounted in the front right side wheel well, between the truck bed and the outside wall of the Grandby.
