RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Advice for new full-timer

Slabs do have a hot spring to mud in and a free hot water shower. That has been nice to use on occasion. It is just beyond the outskirts of the main camping area. Also, Salvation mountain is worth a see. The Mud pots further south are interesting as it's co2 gas that comes up from the...

Have any knowledge/experience with LED floodlights for the rear? I currently use two 55w Halogen tractor type lights. Looking to upgrade. I know they are a bit pricey and don't want to "experiment". Thanks, ~DR

For a couple of years I have been posting campers I found while searching Craigslist. I got in the habit of searching during work breaks when we were looking for a camper. I am going to officially retire from posting in this thread. I hope that I have helped a few find a camper to fit their...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cooking INSIDE your rig. Yes or No ?

A very important tip when using a Foodsaver type machine--- Place a rolled up paper towel inside the bag, between the food and the seal strip. Otherwise, moisture gets sucked out across the seal area. This will ruin the machine and prevent a good seal. The paper towel absorbs the moisture...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Question on Ford Ranger

Ah, I see. I might need more than 1,200. How much extra weight would upgraded suspension allow me to have? I know a lot of you recommend 3/4 ton trucks, but part of me wants a smaller truck for the gas mileage and the ability to get in to more places. Go to a place that MAKES aftermarket...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Question on Ford Ranger

AK is correct. Towing capacity is much different than gross vehicle weight capacity (GVWR). When towing, the only actual weight added to the truck is the weight placed on the hitch. Towing capacity is based on engine power, stopping ability and other things I don't know about. ~DR

However in their online page, they don't list the HAP free version (HAP = Hazardous Air Pollutants). That would be a Kalifornia requirement. Hell, they even changed paint thinner to water based. Can't start a campfire with that! The non-HAP would be better and cure faster.

I have an '86. Lots of things added over the years-steel, stainless and alum. I have never heard of galvanic corrosion problems on these campers and don't worry about it. I like GE Silicon I RTV (the stinky stuff), not the Silicone II ( as it is water based). The automotive RTV's work well...

Mark, They are known as Tek screws. They will drill thru steel and alum as the drill point is hardened. Note: These will not work in wood (there is also a self-tapping screw that has a pointy tip). There are a variety of head types-but I prefer the Phillips. Easy to use with a power drill...
