RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Four Wheel vs Hallmark

I had a minimalist optioned Hawk shell for awhile. It never seemed to effect how far down the road my truck could go. I enjoyed the Hawk but my wife wanted more creature comforts. A FWC, even well optioned is the best for getting back into the boonies. Lighter, will stay together longer and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Outdoor camping table? Suggestions/Recommendations?

Wow Amazon is fast, got the Alps yesterday by noon. My review of the Aps Guide table..... Not made to last. Made in China and is the quality of those sun canopy things, questionable value even at $69. Something Harbor Freight would sell for $39. The table top covering is cheap chinese vinyl...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tundra/fwc

I had a late year (big brake) ’03 Tundra Limited v8 4x4 with a Hawk shell. Ready to travel it was always @ or above G.V.W. I added ‘E” tires, Air Bags, Bilstein shocks and more. On the freeways 13/15 mpg and very little passing power and braking was maginal. My suggestion is at least a 3/4 Ton...

I recently concluded, if boats are holes in the water to throw money into, RV’s are sinkholes.

Great posts. From them I decided I needed a table and found the Alps guide on Amazon for $69 and free delivery to my door. I recently gave away a suitcase Coleman kitchen set up like on post #11. Worked well for years but my new rig has different needs.

The CX is only 6’ inside. It’s been discontinued and the now only the taller TX 6’4” version is offered. I think I read it was the more popular option. I’m 5’11”and 6’ works for me unless I have boots on. The milk crate on top of the aluminum box temporarily has a S.S. bucket in it. I’m planning...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Comparing 3/4 Ton Trucks: Fuel Economy

If you are hauling/towing a gross amount of weight, go diesel. If I was still hauling a FWC popup, I’d have a 3/4T gas truck. My Tundra 4.7(gas) 4x4 with Hawk shell was always very near it’s 6,200 lbs. GVW or a little over. It averaged 15/16 mpg at 60/65mph Now I have a Ram 3500HD(diesel) 4x4...

I also like the fact it has a wider interior than a van or slide-in. The interior is quiet, in the wind at night and without a diesel motor between driver and passenger during driving. I like the granny 1st gear 6 spd. manual transmission, can’t get those anymore. A very good short wheel base...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

A truck loaded over it's rated GVW will never be safe just installing an aftermarket spring helper. Be it air bags or overload springs. Statement below is from here....http://riderite.com/Ride-Rite%20Product%20Detail Ride-Rite air helper springs enhance the ride by reducing inter-leaf...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

I don't believe a modified race trunk or a sand buggy set up for jumping or a 18 wheeler has any relevance just because they have air bags. Comparing there mounting systems to an overloaded stock truck and camper running a universal bolt on over the counter air bag kit is wrong. I totally agree...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

Pinching is a design flaw, now corrected on new units with internal bump stops that prevent pinching. Cradles where not the cause. No air in the rubber air bladder was the cause. Rubber airbags are fragile IMHO. And there are too many tubing connections and little hoses for air leaks. BTDT...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First Gen Tundra suspension upgrade

I still have my '03 Tundra Limited 4x4. I had a FWC Hawk shell for awhile and with options and my gear weighed in @ 1400lbs. Max'd the GVW ! First, I installed E rated BFG AT's, Blistein 5100 shocks and Air Bags with cradles. Blew a bag and shock and I drive very conservatively. That left me...
