RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Well... I did it... time to upgrade to a flatbed and new truck.

Gave up on a 2022 Tundra. Current availability was models with lot's of add-ons we don;t want which drove the price to well over $50K - and it was obvious it was something the dealers did not want to work with us on. Just bought a 2021 SR5 long bed for a decent price. Sticking with the old V8...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Yet another ATC on the way

Nice - we have a Cougar on order that will be mostly a shell and I plan on finishing the build. Have been trying to decide where to put the propane locker. It is mid-ships on our Ocelot and I built the shelving around it, but am thinking the front drivers corner would keep it out of the way...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Well... I did it... time to upgrade to a flatbed and new truck.

That is going to be a good setup. We have a new ATC ordered and are looking at the 2022 Tundra. Delivery right now for both are about the same timeline as yours. Good luck!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refridgerators and Power Use

Starting to gather the parts and pieces for a new camper. I am not an electrical person but I know a number of other folks in this forum are, so here is my question: How can I compare the power consumption between fridge? For example, looking at the Truckfridge TF65 that has the following" - 40...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC, food and bears

Have used the camper in griz country for a number of years. Cook in it all the time and have not had any problems. bear spray always. The dinner bell comment is interesting - would like to see the data on that. Best is to always have at least two can of bear spray so when you empty one, you have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A Grizzly Bear Terrorized a Man for Days in Alaska

Predatory black bears are probably worse than grizzlies - unless you run into a predatory grizzly.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to Dismount & Mount Pickup Canopy -- Solo?

I built a frame attached to the fence. Same height as the truck bed rails. Lift up the topper (either with using my back flat against the topper or lately using the speaker stand for raising the camper roof) put a pipe under it and roll it onto the frame. Same for putting it back on the truck. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New gray wolf pack in Plumas County

Well, if you look at the hunting districts in what I would call SW MT (the "300" numbered - I think there are 46 districts) only 4 districts are given a below average for population (2020 date). This data includes the Northern Yellowstone area. FWP studies have also found in the Bitterroot that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof Struts

Get a speaker stand - we use it up and down when weight is on the roof. Eight years and no issues and so easy to use.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof cargo box on Bobcat

We have carried a Yakima cargo box (small one) for eight years on our ATC Ocelot with no issues. Plus canoes, kayaks at times - lifting and lowering the roof with a speaker stand crank takes all the issues out of that part. I did reinforce the lifting panels inside the camper with 1/2" plywood.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wind deflectors and Aero mods for fuel economy.

Have the same thing on our 05 Tundra and ATC Ocelot. built an aluminum deflector, used it for two years. Took it off, no change in mpg. But I rarely drive over 65.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West storing ATC outside in winter

We live in east Idaho at 6200' so long winters. ATC is on full time and outside 100% of the time. Had a few leaks through the screws that were easily fixed with Dicor. No hail damage, but others have had that - no real damage but a nice settlement from the insurance company. Eight years on the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rear brake light

Same with the bikes covering the 05 Tundra tailights. I got two trailer lights, make a wiring harness that goes in the trailer receptacle and mount the turn/brake lights to the jack brackets. Probably cost about $40 and works fine. I used two trailer (four flat) plugs to make it easy to mount...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Map Bias

We just drove through Oregon and from Detroit to Santiam Pass, the Garmin GPS kept trying to send us on some very backcountry FS roads due to the several pilot car stretches where they are cutting hazard trees, clearing powerlines or salvage logging from the fire last year. Easy to see how some...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Charcoal usage in no fire area?

There have been a number of wildland fires started when campers (or homeowners) have tossed "cold" charcoal grills into the brush and the core of the charcoal briquettes are still hot and they are completely unaware that they just started a fire.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tundra front Rotors

We have an 05 Tundra with an ATC Ocelot on full time - bought the truck with 80K on it, now have 187K (over eight years). Replaced the front rotors at 100K and they are still in good shape (OEM). Drive over Teton Pass fairly often so they get used. But I drive carefully and am not subject to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help Me Set Up My Tundra

We have an 05 Tundra AC with an ATC Ocelot on full time. Stock Bilsteins, did add Air Bags. Still had too much sway so added a Hellwig sway bar which helped a lot. If I had to do it over again, I would add extra leaf springs and not the air bags. but since your camper is only going to be on part...
