RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Pollinators/Fall

Great job! Looks like a big success in helping some prairie land come back. Are you near Midewin Tallgrass preserve?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof Jenie

Has anyone installed one of these in your ATC or FWC? https://www.customcylindersintinc.com/store/roof-jenie

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lightening Strikes on FWCs?

Well, since I have been hit by lightening three times, while out in the field, I hope next time I am in my ATC during the storm!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Gas vs Diesel

BTW - we are in the market for a 3/4 ton gasser and an Alaskan, so am curious as to what size tank you have and gas mileage? If I could afford a newer diesel, might go that way, but too expensive for now. Thanks.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Gas vs Diesel

I had a custom built hitch rack "step" designed that had brackets to attach to the outside points of the hitch. I can easily carry two 5 gallon cans on it (weight is no issue, size is). We use it for water, but gas would work too. Will try to get a photo and upload it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1976 Cab Over Alaskan Camper .... As-Is, Mods,Damage and Fixes

Looking forward to more. We are going through the same thought process right now. Although getting a 3/4 ton truck is first on the list! I am leaning towards and older Alaskan so we can pretty much gut it without remorse and build it out how we want. But the time vs. fun ratio is going to get...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Zealand and experience there

One fellow I work with goes fishing for a month in the winter there. He rents a camper van and I believe it costs about US $1200/month.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hydraulics not holding pressure the top is resting on the pins...

Seems like if they are not holding pressure, it is leaking somewhere. Might have to dig deeper.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Removing Air Conditioner from 96 8' CO

Looking at a used Alaskan, but would want to remove the air conditioner. How hard would it be to seal up the opening? Maybe replace with a Fantastic Fan? Thanks.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk Water leak

I have used Dicor Sealant for the roof screws and other places on our ATC. Seems to work well and is easy to work with.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Inflatable kayak

We bought a Tributary Strike2 inflatable. It can be used solo or tandem. One of the reasons was wanting a durable boat that weighs under 50# for flying to Alaska and the boat being fairly bulletproof from leaks on longer wilderness trips. Can put a skeg on it for tracking. I am sure that lot's...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Trim Bumpers?

I have no bumpers on my Ocelot. I have some foam padding that sits between the camper wall and the top edge of the box. Have had it that way for five years and the only issue is some markings from the foam pad, no visible denting. We drive lot's of FS roads, the Mohave Road, and two tracks and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West High Elevation Forest Monitoring

Good article. We have lost thousands of acres of whitebark here in the northern rockies. Some are still hanging on and are cherished.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Modifying and lightening an Alaskan camper

There is an Alaskan remodel on Expedition Portal that was a pretty complete rebuild - not shortening like you are thinking of though. I would second the need to have lot's of inside space to do a complete rebuild where you have to separate the two parts. If it is that rotted out, I would look...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Now the fun begins my new 78" Ocelot shell

Will look forward to the build. We built out our Ocelot in 2013 and very much enjoy it.

That is a classic line, thanks for posting. Might have to go on my wall next to the old dog collars.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propex Heater in Bobcat

Have had a Propex in our Ocelot for five years with no problems. Installation is straightforward, just think about where you put the thermostat. Karl at GoWesty was very good at answering any questions I had during the install.

Ah, just read the other comments on USAA. Will be calling them back to see about getting insurance from them now!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Insuring your Four Wheel Camper

Same here, have USAA, used Progressive. Pay about $100/year for an Ocelot. Think about $15G replacement value.

Or look for an ATC - I think all of the panels have the wood imprint on them. At least our Ocelot does.

My wife got in on the Kickstarter for this. She uses it and really likes it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Alternate uses for jack brackets

This is just a simple one, but I bolt on two "U" hangers on the bottom hole of each rear bracket. It works great to hang packs, hunting and fishing vests, jackets, etc. while in camp. I do like the table idea.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 20" vs 17" tires ?

Have an 05 Tundra with an Ocelot. Ran Michelin LTX AT2's for almost 60K and no problems. Switched to KO2's for the beefier sidewall and different tread pattern. They definitely pick up more gravel and are noisier. Traction is very good even driving Teton Pass in the winter. If you are going to...
