RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winter Camping Advice

As fall weather begins to turn the hills white, I am trying to prepare for my first winter season camping in my Fleet shell! I've had her since May this year and have absolutely loved it for climbing and camping trips! My primary reason for getting a FWC is for a home base for skiing. I am...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof top catching on camper when lifting

160w solar. Yak track and FF fan. It is definitely catching. It never did it at first and has been progressively getting worse. I'm going to bend the lip once I get a day off and keep an eye on it. Sent from my iPhone using Wander The West

This is exactly how I have to lift mine now. If I lift the front first, no problems. Back first, it gets caught. Sent from my iPhone using Wander The West

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof top catching on camper when lifting

It's hard to tell with the naked eye. I've put a rough edge against the panel but couldn't tell at the time (I've been out climbing) Right now I'm back at work for the week. Once I get a chance I'll try to get a square on it and see. Something seems off...but I'm trying to stay optimistic...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof top catching on camper when lifting

There has been issues with the new composite panels bending/warping. There is a thread in here recently talking about it. I hope I'm just being paranoid and this is a minor flaw that will be remedied by bending the drip edge of the roof and not the early signs of a structural malfunction...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof top catching on camper when lifting

Called FWC and was told that this is normal for a new camper as the roof settles. The fix is to bend the lip a bit to prevent catching. My plan is to do this and keep a close eye on it. I'm suspicious of lift panel warp causing this. Just thought I'd pass it on In case anyone else has this...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof top catching on camper when lifting

It's the outside front of the roof on the passenger side. It's like the roof is sitting a little askew on the camper. More roof is hanging over on the front drivers side, less on the passenger side then it's reversed in the back. I'm wondering if this is a result of the lift panels warping or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof top catching on camper when lifting

I was wondering if this is a known problem and if there are any fixes. I have a new Fleet shell that the front end catches when lifting making it hard to lift. It has just recently started and seems to be getting worse. Has anyone else experienced this? What was the fix and or cause? Thanks...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suspension upgrade path for a 2016 Tacoma with Fleet Flatbed

FWIW I originally had the airbags before the fleet as a way to carry my snowmobile in the back of my truck part time in the winter. I've left them on as an added measure. I think I could get away without them. I believe the will help the springs last longer especially when flexed off road. The...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suspension upgrade path for a 2016 Tacoma with Fleet Flatbed

2003 Tacoma with '16 Fleet. OME HD, Dakkars w AAL, Firestone airbags(w minimal <10psi) and Daystar cradles. The camper is on almost full time. Handles very well on and off road. I recommend the AAL and to use the airbags as a way to level the truck rather than as a support. It does require a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bending in lift panel hinge

I am following this with great interest as I just purchased a new fleet for the primary purpose of winter ski hut. Living in the PNW and seeing massive overnight snowfall (*heavy loads) I worry that a complete failure could lead to serious injury. My experience with FWC so far has been...

Right on buddy! I'm in the same boat, but it's building out a new shell...so maybe not the same boat, but a boat none the less. It's posts like these that inspired me to pull the trigger on a shell and build it out myself! So stoked for next winter!!! Sent from my iPhone using Wander The West

That's the route I think we are going to go. There are a lot of positive reviews on these little fridges. Expensive, but having the ability to keep things frozen in summer seems like a luxury worth paying for! I'm just trying to find ideas on mounting options. It seems like the front drivers...

Great link Ski. Is your ATC model roughly the same size as a Fleet? I am trying to narrow down the options of where the fridge will live. It seems that the TF is pretty efficient, I'm going to look into the cost vs the others. Thanks!

Not much of a shell, no. I didn't like a lot of the features that came with the base model. I felt I could get what I wanted tailored to my needs for less money and higher quality than factory. I looked at the shady boy. Nice product, makes my decision more complicated. Sent from my iPhone...

Thanks for the replies everyone! I really like the idea of two fans now. I am also intrigued by the Maxx Fan cover, great recommendation. It seems like the best of both worlds and I will be camping plenty in snow and rain. I will have to see how the camper fits into our garage. I think its going...

Great info! Any other suggestions? Those with awnings, do you find them to be worth the cost? I was thinking it would be nice to have a place outside that is dry to cook, hang out when it is raining. What options do you love, what are ones you cannot live without? What others are hardly worth...
