RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Newbie Question....

My 2 cents, I leave the camper on full time. I drive a 99 nissan sentra econojunker to work. 40 mpg and I don't put useless miles on my truck. Crunch the numbers for your commute and then do what's cheapest.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Yikes, found water intrusion

Sun came out today so I popped the top to finish the Wave3 installation. Rear corner passenger side of the top was wet. Scary part was the lifter was sitting in the water. Luckily it hadn't absorbed any water yet. I haven't been out lately (for many reasons, most of them not that good) and its...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What is your MPG with FWC ?

2008 Nissan Frontier with Eagle shell. I get 18-20 mpg at 65 mph on the highway.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wanted - Artic Pack for Grandby

I just made an artic pac for my eagle using reflectix and was pleasantly surprised to find that I could sew on velcro with no problem.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West "New" one piece, no seam, no screw, camper roof

So is the original roof a problem? How often do they leak?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Waking up to find not much oxygen left in camper.

Assume "typical" conditions such a light wind 0-5mph and 40*F outside. These would be conservative parameters, but would give us an idea. I always vent some, hate it to get stuffy and it helps to reduce condensation. From google it looks like butane would need about 12% O2 in N2 to combust.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West NEW, USED 1990 GRANDBY

I have an older Olympian catalytic heater that is about the size of the Wave 6. It has worked great for us in both our old camper and our current FWC. Just follow the directions and vent properly. Remember, any combustion device whether furnace, stove or lantern can deplete oxygen or produce...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Head Room or Storage?

Yeah I looked at those and some really expensive Tuffy brand ones but they were either too expensive or not big enough etc... Found this which is a great simple sollution: http://www.finehomebuilding.com/how-to/tips/custom-truck-bed-extender-tool-storage.aspx but I can't give up much space so...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another Awning

nice truck! I have the same but with a little lift on it. do you have overload springs, Timbrens or airbags? I killed my stock springs when I first got my camper, they were warped over the axle. I love the tarp set up. I did a similar set up but used small stainless boat cleats on the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another Awning

My thoughts exactly GSB! I've got the Yakima bars up there, so why not run a rod between them? I've got some spare Yakima round clamps and it seems it would be simple enough to make some sort of attachment. Really the only reason for the bar is to provide some intermediate tie points, so it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Northern NV Weekend

I guess I should have known that if I'd looked more closely at the previous pic. I haven't been there in a while! Was there any mud in the playa or did get there on the "road"? You should add some of those photos in the Black Rock Desert section in Geographic Areas. Stew Took the playa...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another Awning

I know this is kind of a dumb question, but do the eye bolts go through the fabric on the inside of the roof trim? I don't know where the popup material actually attaches. Would there be any reason to fear puncturing the material that high up? There is an aluminum drip rail trim piece screwed...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Nother Camper Mod

The handy shower curtain rod on the rack, 30 wide by 35 extended. Now for the turnbuckle leashes, front fairing, All Pro jerry can holder, 115 volt plug relocation, etc... I don't know, if you need a curtain you should find a more remote camp. I will admit though, on a cooler windy day it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wind fairing

I had such a large gap (~5") between cab and camper which was creating a big air trap, I chose to move the air off to the sides. I found a piece of 4" L-shaped galvanized flashing at the local steel yard, bend to shape, weld on few L-brackets for extra stiffening, installed some t-nuts on bottom...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another Awning

Looks good!! Did you all ready have the poles or can you buy them somewhere? I already had the poles from my old camper but I bought them years ago from REI, I would think they still have them. The slide adjustable poles are great because you can adjust the tension of the tarp by raising or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Why does everyone say they're heavy?

Well, I guess heavy is a relative term, my Eagle weighs 500 pounds and that makes your Alaskan "very heavy" relative to it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Succor Creek - Eastern Oregon

Looks like a great area. If you had not said it was Succor Creek I would have sworn it was Jarbidge NV. Same basalt column formations and desert river. I'll have to get up there sometime.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I'm finally seeing the light on diesel engines and the US auto makers

We get an honest 18 mpg at 65 mph in our 08 frontier with the Eagle shell, sometimes we see 20 mph with a tail wind. I'd love to be able to buy a small diesel truck like we saw all over Australia a few years ago, the folks we talked to couldn't believe that Nissan and Toyota didn't sell them in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another Awning

give us some detail on the two attachment points. eye bolts? used existing hole? I actually use 4 stainless steel eye bolts on the camper and attach the bungy to the four eyelets on the tarp. That way the stress is spread out over a larger area and not just the corners. Got the eyebolts...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Northern NV Weekend

Took a long weekend last week and trailered the bikes up to north Washoe County. Explored around, did some rides and soaking. Found some redneck playa art.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another Awning

Setup a simple awning on my camper. Had a similar setup on my previous rig and used it every day for a year. Cheap, durable and dependable. The key is using a heavy duty tarp and loops of bungy at the 4 attachment points, this lets it give some in the wind without over stressing the tarp or...

Beemerchef, I wondered if that was you. I traveled to and from Ely on 50 last wed-thursday and saw a beemer with a sidecar, didn't see spirit though. It was a beautiful trip on 50, must have been great on the bike. Welcome to Reno. BillM
