RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West life change and a FWC?

I imagine the weight of the rack and bike would put me in a 3/4 ton truck for sure, but it might be well be worth it. My crew cab 3/4 ton truck gets between 15-18 mpg with my camper....... just saying.... :D

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Panel Installation/Wiring on Older Camper

I'm getting pretty close to wiring mine up as well. How/where does the factory transition the wiring from the roof to the power controller/battery/etc? I was thinking of going through the roof, wires coming down behind the front lift panel - somehow getting to the sidewall, then down under the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West life change and a FWC?

Get the biggest truck you can see yourself driving/living in for a month at a time. I started with a standard cab and have moved up to a crew cab.... It was just too cramped spending a week in a little tiny cab. As for fuel mileage, I did give up some mileage but it was worth the comfort and...

I just bought an 80w panel and a charge controller. I also added a 10w panel to my order for a co-worker. We will see how they all look in a few days :D I received my panel and charge controller yesterday. 8 'working days' for delivery isn't too bad. Very nicely/heavily...

I just replaced the rear door on my 1993 camper and the old one is free for the taking. OR if you need a small part off of it - I will let you have that as well. I will ship the small stuff for the cost of a flat rate USPS box... It is the square corner door that was standard. With screen door...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Extended cab-over option?

I have a '93 Grandby and it is a tight squeeze when the upper bed is pulled out. And there is zero storage room on the upper bunk when it is folded down - not even a blanket is going to fit... When I start my hunt for a newer model I am going for the extended cab over no matter what.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Panel 80w $99 What do you think?

Be aware these are likely Chinese gov. subsidized solar panels they are flooding the market with to try and drive competitors out of buisness/the market so if that bothers you buy accordingly. Very true - the US/Euro company that filed the big federal complaint against the Chinese is based...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West how much should a 1980's 4 wheel camper weigh?

I'd guess your camper fully loaded is 1500-1800 pounds. My 1993 8' Grandby tips in at 1500 ready to roll.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First Aid, what to carry, when does it expire?

Great info about the ,benadryl, imodium and antacid. We just started to carry them in the chewable style. You can chew regular benadryl -- your mouth will go numb, but it gets in you a lot faster. :D I have a large supply of it in my camper.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First Aid, what to carry, when does it expire?

You might want to rethink the snake bite kit. Rather than me opening a debate on an injury that is subject to a lot of folklore you might want to check out what the medical community has to say on the subject. I let that one slide when I read it-- but thanks for bringing that up. The...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First Aid, what to carry, when does it expire?

I carry just a simple kit with some added in medicines that we might need. Nothing fancy. One in the camper and one in the truck, so in reality I have a ton of basic supplies. I replace the bandaids and bandages when the packaging starts to look old. If it is sealed, dry and not heat/sun...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West how to set up a easy connect/disconnect to charge the battery

Mark - what is a "set of 12v connectors"? Is it like the 2 pole connectors Desert refers to? I've considered this type of set up, but wanted to see what others have used. I was concerned you might lose some charging power by going to the small 2 pole connectors. Thanks. You can get 'anderson'...

Looks more modern, but dang that fabric is busy. I'm more monochrome I guess (boring some might say). I'm headed to the Portland Sportsmans Show in a couple weeks to see the new campers -- hopefully they will have this one along. And hopefully I don't decide mine is a dinosaur and fall for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West GVWR: Gross Vehicle Rate Ratings

I'm curious as to what kind of payload that 6000+ pound full size International pickup was expected to carry. I'm guessing it's only a 1/2 ton. To bad IH went bankrupt after 100+ years. Their stuff was built to last, and last, and last... It was a 1971 'D' series 3/4 ton. Standard cab 8'...

I don't care what the GVWR says. I load it up as I see fit - haul what I want - tow what I want - etc. BUT I try my best to do it safely, and regardless of the GVWR if it doesn't look safe, feel safe, stop safe, etc - I don't go anywhere. Last month I towed a fullsize International Pickup...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Must have aftermarket accessories?

I was debating a 3500 but.......good point on the air bags. Actually I hope it drops a inch or two. I have a 8' garage door and I think I am over by about an inch or so. How far did yours drop? I measured it when I loaded it up the first time -- but then didn't write it down. It was a couple...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Must have aftermarket accessories?

Air bags. I know it is a 3/4 ton -- but the Chevy trucks ride nice for a reason. You don't need it for the load capacity, but you might want them for the leveling ability.
