RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West First Night in New Hawk. Furnace Question

Thanks for the insight I'm not ready to do anything until I can replicate the problem....otherwise how do you know you fixed it right? If nothing works, this would be easy enough to try and I'll keep this in my bag of tricks. None of this explains why turning the truck on started the furnace...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West First Night in New Hawk. Furnace Question

hmmm very interesting. i was at relatively low elevation, about 4,000' or so. Back home is basically sea level, so there is a difference there. Would either of those be intermittent problems?

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West First Night in New Hawk. Furnace Question

That's almost what I did at home by trying to replicate the situation when I ran the furnace for over 4 hours. That was straight running as I set the thermostat high enough that it wouldn't shut off, so I figured it was actually simulating how much the furnace would run over a longer period if...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West First Night in New Hawk. Furnace Question

Well that is good to know. The fan was not running obviously slower just by listening. I suppose it could have been less but I didn't notice. IF that was the case wouldn't the fan have been running that slower or weaker when it read 12.3V at home?. Maybe another question I should ask for those...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West First Night in New Hawk. Furnace Question

Single battery from FWC, I believe 90 Amp Hour AGM The voltmeter that evening I was reading was the one installed on the furnace cabinet, which I've confirmed with a voltmeter at home that it reads the same as measured at battery terminals. (battery in the camper)

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West First Night in New Hawk. Furnace Question

Thought I'd post a pic because, well, we all like pics right? :) So, first night out. Not nearly as cold as I anticipate camping in, temps got down to the low 30s. High 30s until the wee hours. About 10 pm I get in and turn on the heater and it fires up and performs as it should. In no time...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Best Cold Weather Tips

Yes, I'm getting the furnace in my shell, that's about it. Just need basic shelter. This is good info, thanks for sharing. Some of the temp settings I'm reading about seem kind of low, but if the perceived feeling is that it's to hot that's a good thing. I did opt for an extra vent and both...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Best Cold Weather Tips

I have to admit reading this thread is a bit disconcerting . My Hawk shell is on order and I will be picking up this winter with an immediate cold weather trip planned. The biggest reasons I'm upgrading from a topper on the back of my truck is so I could get a warm, comfortable nights rest in...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West New tires needed. 3 snowflake rated is a must 5 choices in my list.

Unless I missed it I didn't see much in that test in regards to snow except mention of siping and such The reason I ask is I've been running the Duratracs for three years now, and am due for a new set this winter. They are the first set of tires I've owned that have been snowflake winter rated...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Hellwig Pro Series on Silverado

Oh boy, more food for thought :) My current Duratrac are SL and a set of four puts me at 2500# over the trucks limit (which I will be near with camper) I suppose I really don't want to much stiffness, since I will be in the proper range is it a matter of simply deciding if I'm ok with the...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Hellwig Pro Series on Silverado

Thanks for the reply , sounds like we are in a similar situation I just ordered the Hellwig springs and will probably install in the next few weeks. My camper isn't ready until December anyway, so no huge hurry. Curious if you ran your camper before the E rated tires? I'm currently running...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Hellwig Pro Series on Silverado

Sounds like you're happy with the Hellwigs (that's good) I don't see you mention any downside to them, so I take it you would do the same again. Part of my thought is at about $300 and an easy install/removal it's not much commitment if I decide on something else later. Thanks for your thoughts...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Hellwig Pro Series on Silverado

OK, maybe I'm just bouncing ideas here.... Currently waiting for my FWC Hawk camper on a '13 Silverado 1500 and I've been reading everything I can about what I need to get the truck ready. To be honest I was a bit surprised I need to do anything, as my camper is specd about 1000 pounds which...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Inexpensive under bed cushion air-flow ideas?

I'm currently waiting for my camper to be built so I don't have access for any kind of measurements... Curious how much extra room is there with the ceiling collapsed when using stock FWC mattress pads? I've read a few threads about looking for more comfortable options but this is the first...
