    Bug Protection

Thanks for the input. Lots of elbow grease and Turtle Wax bug remover got most of the bugs off. Turtle Wax leaves some wax finish on the camper and I am going to try a product called Protect All to help in future minimizing how much the bugs stick. The 108 degree temp here in Northern CA bakes...

    Bug Protection

Just got back from a month in Wyoming, camping around ( Big Sandy river is a great place) and selling the family ranch. I have a huge amount of splattered bugs on the front of my cab over. What have people done to ease or eliminate this problem? Build an air foil, spray a bug releasant on the...

    Alaskan Window screen removal

My screens are not removable. Built into the frame. I may cut the screens out then have screens made with frame I can screw to the inside. Then they can be removed when needed. Any thoughts? 2020 design was clearly better.

    Alaskan Window screen removal

According the guys at the Alaskan factory there is no way to remove the screens from the windows. I was hoping someone would have a new way of getting the screens off. Not a great design. If I figure out how to do it I will post it here.

    Alaskan Window screen removal

My 2014 Alaskan CO has window screens that seem to be riveted into the window frame, making it very hard to clean half of the window. Has anyone found away to get the screens off the windows so you can clean the windows. Some of the windows have gotten pretty gunky and cleaning them would solve...

    IOTA and Lithium Battery Charging

Well, I guess that won't work thru the Victron then. Back to the drawing board. Thanks for the response Rando.

    IOTA and Lithium Battery Charging

On a second thought, the Iota being difficult to get to, is there any reason I could not run the Iota output through my Victron charge controller as a way of keeping the voltage appropriate for lithium batteries? The Iota puts out 14.8 in bulk mode, too high for lithium batteries, the Victron is...

    IOTA and Lithium Battery Charging

I recently upgraded my Alaskan to two lithium batteries and had question as to whether the IOTA charger converter would have the proper voltages for lithium. On talking to IOTA, they advised me that the voltage on a IOTA D30 IQ4 would be too high for lithium batteries, 14.8 volts. I asked if...

    Lithium Battery charging

I just installed a Victron Orion DC-DC charger in my Alaskan, replacing my Blue Sea ACR as I had switched to Battleborn. My Victron version was not the smart version ( blue tooth) and had a potentiometer on the side to set the output voltage. A bit of a pain in the ass as I had to get my...

    Alternator to Lithium charging

Thanks for the info. Rando, on your set up using the ACR, do you get a full charge from the alternator. Alternators for FLA batteries usually charge at about 13.9 volts whereas lithium requires 14.6 volts. is there also a bleed off from the higher lithium battery voltage to the lower voltage...

    Alternator to Lithium charging

I have 360 watts of solar running through a victron 30 amp controller to a Battle Born lithium battery on my 2008 GMC diesel with a 2014 Alaskan. Prior to the Battle Born I used a Blue Sea SI ACR between my engine batteries and my camper FLA batteries. After talking to Blue Sea I learn the ACR...

Raise/lower valve has slight ‘weeping’ leak

Yes that is the fill hole, use a straw or something to see how full it is. Pour carefully as it can be quite a mess.I use John Deer hydraulic oil in my 2014. And yes there is some seep in mine as well. Age perhaps. Good luck.

    Alaskan camper Hydraulic pump

I upgraded to an electric pump on my old Alaskan. It was a 70's CO. I used electric lift pump from a convertible top on an a wrecked car. I t worked pretty well but it was a job to convert. Some people have used linear electric motors in each corner. Good luck.

    Solar Victron Question

After futsing around tightening connections, checking cables and such I have been able to get the voltage difference down to 1 volt plus or minus a few 10ths. I am going to leave it there for now. Just checked my amp draw with ridge running and POC running and it looks like the draw is going to...

    Solar Victron Question

Ok took measurements. Fluke and Bogart same battery voltage readings. Solar system on float, 2 amp input,28 watts according to victron blue tooth iPhone reading. At victron MPPT battery +, fluke reads 14.08 v, victron says 14.02 v. Bogart and Fluke both read 13.7 v at battery. Checked both at...

    Solar Victron Question

I have 260 watts of solar coming through a Victron MPPT controller to feed two 6 volt Costco batteries on my 2014 Alaskan CO. I have the Victron bluetooth feed going to the Victon app on my phone from my controller and also have a Bogart meter. The Victron voltage reading, taken from the blue...

    Thickness of your cushions

Great to hear about Exped mats. Does it get thin enough to be able to leave the bedding on the mattress and fully close the folders? Or can you deflate it to get it thinner and close the folders? I have a 2014 CO Alaskan. Thanks

    Gas vs Diesel

I have a 2008 GMC Duramx diesel 2500 to haul my 2014 Alaskan 8 footer which works great. 19 to 21 mpg on the highway. Handles the camper weight fine with air bags. A larger fuel tank would be great but I for now I carry an extra 5 gals of fuel. Only needed it once in Owahee desert.

    Penetrating Epoxy

Yes that is normal. At least has been on my Alaskan’s. It is meant to keep the front of the camper from rubbing on the pick up bed.

Camco makes them. Very handy. Use them on my 14 CO to hang all sorts of things. RV stores usually carry them or Amazon.
