RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West 4WC Owners: A Cautionary Tale

Here's how it went down Thanks for the sympathy, all. Probably shouldn't have said the camper can't be fixed. It's just that fixing it will be as expensive as replacing it, or that's the way it looks so far. Here's some more detail on how this fiasco happened: I ate lunch last Tuesday at a...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West 4WC Owners: A Cautionary Tale

Last week I got myself into a nasty situation that resulted in me being stranded in the Colorado wilderness for three days. During that time, my truck and camper suffered some significant damage. I accept the blame for this, even if there were extenuating circumstances. But that's not the point...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Bike rack

Thule I started this thread last June, fully intending to be bike worthy last summer. But life got in the way and I didn't purchase a bike rack until three months ago, using my REI dividend money. Went with the Thule, which swings down and allows the doors to open. So far so good. Cost me in...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Which air bags to buy?

As the author of a previous thread on airbags, I'll point out that I finally resolved my issues by buying the Timbren spacers. They're worked out great for me, saved me money, and are impervious to breakage. My Tacoma sits flat and rides much better.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Anyone converting their trucks to hydrogen?

Been reading on the Internet about homemade kits that boost gas mileage as much as 75 percent. Any forum members doing this? Mileage on my '06 Tacoma was 22 mpg on our trip to the factory to pick up our Eagle shell. Now I routinely get about 15-16 depending on wind, etc. Converting water into...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Does the factory do a rehab on used 4W campers?

Wondering if I am able to get to California this summer whether the factory guys could go over my camper and give it a rehab? We've camped about 70 nights in the past two years, and the wear and tear is beginning to show, although I have no major issues. My model is an Eagle shell, on a Toyota...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Suspension air bags

Love the Timberins Just returned from a 2,500-mile jaunt, and happy to report that the Timberins have solved all problems. The truck handles much better now, and the "bucking" sensation I encountered on grooved concrete highways has disappeared. Airbags have any number of things that can go...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Suspension air bags

Here's how it all turned out... Hey fellas -- After my little drama with the stolen truck (posted in a separate thread) I'm happy to report the conclusion to this old problem -- for about one-third the cost of air bags, my dealer installed a rubber-plastic spacer between the leaf springs and...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West ALERT: Stolen 4WD Eagle camper, on Toyota Tacoma, silver, '06.

Thanks to all of you Thanks gang, for your concern. Happy to report that the cops called yesterday to report my rig was found and all is well. The camper was not even entered. Apparently it was a joy-riding situation, probably involving kids who were smart enough to bypass the ignition system...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West ALERT: Stolen 4WD Eagle camper, on Toyota Tacoma, silver, '06.

Thanks fellas Sorry, no pics available, and even if I had one, my techie skills are such that I couldn't post it. Here's a couple more details: The Eagle is a shell model, with an extra window on the side where a stove would normally be found. The camper has an Obama sticker over the back...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West ALERT: Stolen 4WD Eagle camper, on Toyota Tacoma, silver, '06.

Bummer. Happened today under the most unusual circumstances. On a whim, I decided to go skiing for the first time in 25 years. Back in the day, I was a professional skier until I turned 30. I gave up skiing for the corporate jungle and retired to a nice life of camping and trout fishing 100...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Suspension air bags

Here's how it turned out Since I began this thread several weeks ago, I've gone back and forth about what to do. The tire dealer wanted $600 to install the airbags, which is a job that's simply beyond my ability to do myself. I checked around town with other shops and most quoted a price in...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Suspension air bags

Thanks all Once again I knew I could rely on the forum to produce great information. Thanks to all of you. I'm going ahead with the air bags, based on what I've learned here. What I still don't understand is why this issue comes up now -- but was never mentioned by the 4WC sales crew. If I'm...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Suspension air bags

Hi guys -- Put a new set of tires on the truck yesterday (went with Yokohama eight-ply) and while at the tire dealer, the salesman pointed out that my leaf springs are fully extended. He suggested that I add air bags to bring my rear end up and to correct allignment issues. He wants $650 for...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Tires

My 2006 Tacoma access cab is nearing 35,000 miles, and the original tires are ready to be replaced. Because tires aren't something I'm knowledgeable about, I thought I'd ask the forum for advice. The truck carries an Eagle shell full-time. I'd like to hear what others have experienced. I'm...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Vehicle type and fuel mileage?

My mileage took a hit My Toyota Tacoma got 22 mpg on the trip to California last summer to pick up our Eagle shell. On the return trip, we got 17 mpg burning unleaded regular. I'm running the six-cylinder engine.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Bike rack

Anybody hauling around bikes with their camper? I'm curious about how you do it. I've got an '06 Tacoma outfitted with an Eagle 4W Camper shell. I've ruled out a roof rack for obvious reasons, and am thinking a front rack would be the only way to go. Is there such a device? Don't recall ever...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Conrete highways vs. asphalt -- Why the difference in handling?

Wow Patrick, that was an amazing post. But I'm still wondering about replacing the shocks. Since the my last post, someone pointed out that my leaf springs seem to be fully stressed. May have to check in with the dealer. Geez. Thanks to all who passed on information.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Conrete highways vs. asphalt -- Why the difference in handling?

Bucking Yeah, "bucking" is a good way to describe it. Usually this occurs at highway speeds at or above 40 mph. What's odd is that it doesn't always occur on concrete. Just sometimes. Anyway, I'm glad to see that others have noticed it too. Stan, do you recommend purchasing heavy-duty shocks...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Conrete highways vs. asphalt -- Why the difference in handling?

My 2006 Toyota Tacoma is fitted with a new Eagle shell. We picked up our camper last June, and have put about 40 nights in it so far. My wife and I graduated to the camper after 35 years of tent camping. Couldn't be happier with our choice. However, I noticed immediately that my truck handles...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West New member: How bad do I need...

A note on the fan We installed the fan in our new Eagle, and we're happy with it and have used it. One note however: Thanks to the fan, I can't get the camper into my garage. It just barely won't clear. So now I park in the public parking area, in violation of the community covenants. Thus far...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West New Eagle

Welcome to the world of Four-Wheel Campers Hi Jim and Sue -- I too am a new Eagle owner. We've spent about two dozen nights in it so far, with no complaints. Wondering what kind of gas mileage you're getting on the mothership in these days of pricey gasoline. I'd be curious to see a picture...
