RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West MPG , Tacoma 4.0 4x4 with FWC Fleet

I've had my Fleet on a 2009 Tacoma since 2016. I generally check the mpg fairly frequently on trips and 14mpg seems to be the sweet spot. Headwinds/high speeds/passes will get us to 12 and even below. Tailwind and a light foot will get us close to 20 but this is rarely seen.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Protect the Greater Hart - Sheldon

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Both Hart and Sheldon Refuges are in a way laboratories in that they have been managed with grazing removed for a few decades at least. They are both fairly healthy sagebrush steppe ecosystems. Cheat grass is present for sure but not to the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Protect the Greater Hart - Sheldon

This will get you there a bit more direct. Hart-Sheldon Story Map I was in the helicopter when that openning sequence of the Pronghorn herd passing beneath us was filmed. Pretty wild not to mention how crazy the chopper was gyrating to keep them in view.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Protect the Greater Hart - Sheldon

Thanks for posting this Steve - There is a really informative "story map" about this landscape on the ONDA website that has a wealth of information. When I have a few minutes I'll see if I can post a direct link. Meanwhile Hart Mtn Refuge is being heavily impacted by a 65K+ acre wildfire. So...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Phone photos

Wandering Sagebrush - We were camping near the Buckhorn Viewpoint above the Imnaha a week or so back and saw similar masses of the beauties. Most I've ever seen in one location, spectacular!! Of course the camera was in my pack.... Also, equally impressive was the Mock Orange bloom in all the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2024 Tacoma with FWC?

Just a note on the Toyota bed bolts mentioned above. I stripped one out on my 09 Tacoma so I found a machine bolt that just fits inside the Toyota bolt hole, I believe it might have been 3/8". I used a high grade steel bolt and secured it with lock washers and lock nut. Obviously you have to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Front Suspension Damage - This needs To Be Fixed

Yikes!! - That is always one of my worries as I've got 200K on my Tacoma and many miles on those same rocky roads you were just on. Like y'all we just crawl along but it has to take a toll over time. Glad to hear you have an experienced shop with no wait....

Bumpers on my Fleet are around 2". Should get you in the ballpark.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2024 Tundra Composite Bed Tie Downs

On my 09 Tacoma with a composite bed I had an issue with one of the factory bolts stripping. With the FWC supplied bed mounts I just dropped a slightly smaller diameter and longer bolt through the existing hole and put some lock washers with a lock nut on the bolt from below. Been in use since...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Rally in Oregon; recommendations before/after

In the Small World Dept.. I worked for John Judy as a lift operator at the local ski area just out of Sisters/Camp Sherman back in 77-78. Always seemed like a good soul and moved me up the lift operator ladder as the season and attrition of operators wore on. Still remember him giving me the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fire at Benton Hot Springs - April 2024

Sounds like they are working hard to get the site restored and maintain privacy. That would have been a real scary situation for them. Seems like we have mostly used #s 7&8.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Succor Creek

Karen and I found some really nice dispersed camping sites upstream from the park. They were quite scenic looking down into the canyon. I'm sure your sharp eyes scoped them out on your way through. Pretty cool you can day-trip into the Owyhee from your basecamp.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting Recovery boards

No, the bolts I used were just long enough to pull tight with the nuts inside the Yakima tracks. I used lock washers on the bolts. I did purchase a couple of varying lengths of bolts and played around to figure which length worked best as I too was worried about using too long of a bolt...
