Wander The West Sideways mounted roof box (Yakima, Thule, etc)?

I currently use the clamp style universal ski/snowboard carrier mounted to my FWC Hawk's factory aluminum square tube roof rack to transport our snowboards. They are exposed to a lot of weather on longer drives which I don't like. I was thinking about using our Yakima roof box from the Subaru...

Wander The West Need help/ideas with building a modification

You might get away with using some screw links on the camper to extend the reach of your existing turnbuckles and save yourself a few bucks.

Wander The West Hawk installed on new truck

Thanks! These photos don't really do the camera justice (too wet to fidget) but I've been playing with a new Olympus OM-D EM-5 as a smaller/handier replacement to my Canon 7D. The best camera is the one you carry around...!

Wander The West Hawk installed on new truck

Shakedown trip happened yesterday. Headed out from Squamish in pouring rain (we don't use that term lightly here) up to Pemberton, and up the Lillooet River FSR to Keyhole hotsprings. About 65km of forest road to get there that was a mix of freshly graded, washboard, potholed, and thick mud...

Wander The West Hawk installed on new truck

Thanks. Yes, according to my multimeter it's only hot when the key is on. Interesting point about removing the campers battery separator. I went to such trouble to replace the recalled one a few years ago I'm not sure if I want to open the cabinets up and get in there again!

Wander The West Hawk installed on new truck

The incentives Ford offered this summer were too good to pass up. I got a good trade in value for my F150 and covered a lot of the price difference between my old truck and the new one with the employee pricing and other allowances. Basically got the diesel and bulk of upgrade free. I wasn't...

Wander The West Hawk installed on new truck

No, it came off my old F150 which had a deeper bed. Too deep IMO! Those hills (Mt Thyestes in the Tantalus Range) are across the Squamish River and the bushwack to get up is *almost* impossible! But I totally agree. Here's the only trip report that I've ever found...

    Wander The West Aftermarket bumpers

I'm interested in swapping out my stock bumpers on my F350 for aftermarket black steel ones. Better approach angle, maybe a winch, tow points, aux lighting, that kind of thing. Approach angle and dragging things around at my farm are my primary reasons, and then looks of course...! Does...

Wander The West Hawk installed on new truck

I got around to doing the install today, after getting lots of great advice here. I decided to use Ford's 5th wheel wiring harness (part no. BC3Z-13A576-A) for ease of install. It was basically plug and play, routing the cables toward the front of my bed, drilling a 2" hole and installing the...

Wander The West FWC Mounting Suggestions

Bringing this one back from the dead but does anyone have any handy tips for measuring/marking the drill locations for the in bed eye bolts? I have some measurements from FWC but any tips would be welcome. I will likely put the camper on the truck and see where the turnbuckles want to go, but...

Wander The West Changed trucks, now have to move the Hawk

Thank you for the advice guys. I will check my truck and hopefully be able to go the route with the factory wiring harness, that sounds perfect! There should be a thread on here detailing your install. Time will tell on the truck I guess.

Wander The West Changed trucks, now have to move the Hawk

As far as the Internet/forums/YouTube are concerned no one should ever buy a Chev/Ford/Dodge as they all breakdown and blow up as soon as you take them off the lot. Thanks for the rhetoric.

That's one way to go for sure, I don't think the eye bolts would be too complicated but I'm not fantastic with wiring...

Wander The West Changed trucks, now have to move the Hawk

I am in the same boat now too, just waiting to pickup my 2015 F350. I spoke with the FWC dealer near here in Vancouver (Morrisey Industries) and he wants $800+tax to install the camper. Seems a tad high for the job! Any thoughts?

Wander The West Moving from F150 to bigger truck

Thank you for the great advice. My main concern was in fact bed depth, as I think FWC adds an additional platform under the camper to make it sit higher for the newest F150s. I'm sure it could be removed easily enough. I was unaware of the bed length differences. I love my F150 as well and it...

Wander The West Moving from F150 to bigger truck

Hey all, I've got the wheels turning now about moving from my 2010 F150 to a bigger F250 or 350 and was wondering if anyone may know how my 2010 Hawk would fit in the bed of one of those trucks, of comparable vintage. I will be able to ask FWC too, but thought this may be a useful reference thread.

Wander The West Vancouver Island Planning

Look for the 'Backroad Mapbooks'. They are regional (so you may need to buy a few) and have all the forest service roads and trails on them. You can get them electronically for your GPS if you prefer. No reason to pay for camping in BC, except for a few places like Tofino. I can definitely help...
