    2000 Dodge 2500 4X4 diesel with FWC eyebolts installed -- $10,500

My wonderful wife passed away last month, so the truck we were saving for a 5th Wheel is something I won't be needing anymore. It was the perfect truck for our Grandby and I'm sure it has plenty more FWC miles in it. I'd like to see it go to an FWC guy if anybody needs it. Here's the data...

    Fifth wheels

Thanks for the tips. The Escape looks like a good step up from a FWC.

    Fifth wheels

I hope I picked the right forum for my question. Some of you may remember me. I am a former Baja-traveling, proud Grandby owner who sold the Grandby to Scott Carroll in 2011. After a couple of years of overseas travel, my wife is ready again for "camping." We're probably not going to do the...

    Storage Lids Under Rollover Bed

Here's my two cents: I ended up replacing the bed with a dinette, but I had several variations along the way. I suggest you consider just removing the lids and let the couch be the lid.

    Gutted Fleet - Rebuilding

In regard to alternative interior paneling, I suggest you take a look at FRP (fiberglass reinforced paneling). It takes a lot of abuse and is easy to clean. Marlite is one name brand.

    Grandby Gone

Well, my Grandby is sold and headed for Lake Tahoe an hour ago. Please welcome Scott Carroll and his family to the FWC family. He's already been lurking here and, I'm sure, will introduce himself in the near future. I've only met a few of you on our Baja runs but it's been great fun being part...

    Dodge 2500 with a Hawk

The FWC is a light load for the mighty Cummins. My stock suspension 2500 CTD has hauled my Grandby all over the place from CA to Prudhoe Bay, AK, on/off road with not one issue. Handling is great in all conditions. You will be fine - keep an eye on the attachments at first. Have a good trip...

Inaugural Trip with my new Hawk down to Baja

Where is Campo Beluga? We were at Rancho Grande just off the airstrip. Have you camped at Punta Final? I wanted to get down there to check that out. Campo Beluga is perhaps 2k down the beach from Alphonsina's. From the store you need to go down the road to the beach that runs along the...

    Is This Heresy?

Well, having just returned from another four weeks in Baja and having now seen most of its beautiful, bumpy back roads, Roxanna and I have decided to move onto the pavement and increase the elbow room in our RV. We've put the Grandby up for sale (See Gear Exchange Forum) and started looking at...

Inaugural Trip with my new Hawk down to Baja

Looks fabulous. what does it cost to camp there? We just got back from four weeks in Baja, going down the east side like Rand did. Campground fees ranged between free at Campo Beluga at Gonzaga Bay (we were the only ones there and nobody ever showed up to collect) to $25 per night at East Cape...

    Tire Pressure

I was camping on the beach last week in Baja and got into some soft sand that I could not move forward in. So I dropped the pressure in 5# increments until I could get her to move. 25# finally did the trick. My question to the group is how far down could I have gone? 15#? Also what pressure are...

What is your MPG with FWC ?

I'm on a trip right now with the camper. My truck, 2000 Dodge 2500 diesel, has a computer that calcs the mileage. Today it was showing an avg of 15.7 mpg at 63 mph avg speed. On a similar trip this summer without the camper it showed 19.7 at 68 mph.

    Turnbuckle Mea Culpa

A couple of weeks ago there was a fairly extensive discussion here about turnbuckle lock nuts. I chimed in saying, in short, that I had been all over Baja with my Grandby and never had a serious loose turnbuckle episode and therefore thought it was all a non-issue. Well I'm back in Baja and...

    Is This Heresy?

Hi We have a 21.5 ft FW and it has a gooseneck adaptor, What brand/model is your 5W? What is a gooseneck adaptor? If you can have full use of the bed with the gooseneck, why would anybody ever use the conventional 5W hook-up? As you can see, I'm totally new to this.

    Solar-Low voltage protection

I have a stove, but I want to move towards everything solar for several reasons. I, of course don't know your exact situation, but, from an efficiency standpoint, DC electricity is about the worst way possible to make heat. You have huge losses between the solar panel and the boiling...

    Is This Heresy?

Hey Bob. I've seen them as small as 17'. My thought is a 23 footer is about the same as a 19' travel trailer out behind the truck and way easier to drag around. Because its just the 2 of us that would be plenty big. I don't know about slide outs. They look great but I have no experience with...

    Is This Heresy?

I'm thinking in the same direction, Jay. Our FWC is starting to feel a little cramped when we're not in the outback. We had a 21' Class C some years back that had plenty of room for us and would probably feel palatial after the Grandby. Do they make 5Ws that small?

    Solar-Low voltage protection

You need a Charge Controller. I have a Morningstar which I like a lot but you don't have to spend that much. You can get one for less than $50. Here's a link with some info. http://www.altestore.com/store/Charge-Controllers/Solar-Charge-Controllers/c892/

    What years, what features?

I am interested as I have an '04 Hawk. After this year is the window setup exactly the same just without the outside covers? Went out west without a step stool and uncovering the windows got to be a chore standing on the running boards or tire and reaching a long ways to partially roll and...
