Agreed! You don't see those very often. I was surprised it didn't fetch bit more. I'm sure truck didn't worth much at 200k but decent early 00 camper without terrible problems.... I sure thought would find the right crowd.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Used Camper Alert Thread

Used Hawk is up for auction tomorrow, mounted on F150 2WD http://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDetail.asp?lid=33153961 I took a brief and not thorough look at it. Looks a little rougher in real life, small dents here and there, nicked front passanger corner, headliner little wet on inside but overall...

Here is a pic on my truck. I was shooting for narrow profile for better fit on tighter trails. Here it is on not so tight trail. It does make it a little more challenging loading it onto full size truck though.

SOLD FWC Ranger. 8' long, fits narrow shallow bed smaller pickup trucks. Best guess on years. Most of it is in fair shape. Roof doesn't leak, lift panels are good, over cab bed is good. Tie down eyebolds, Canvas in decent shape for age. Basic package. Water tank, stove, propane tank, icebox...

Nice set up. Do you want to trade my Ranger for Grandby? Mine should work in your current truck. Athough it is not quite as new and neither quite as nice.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West is tailgate really necessary to support 16" overhang?

Tailgate is not that heavy but for other reasons mentioned I've been thinking how to deal with that same problem. IMHO floor construction of FWC is not setup for substantial free span. Its just stapled/screwed into the edge. Neither one works well on pull loads. One idea I've had is to attach a...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Grandby on 6.5 Dodge Ram 2500?

My brother looked into hitch extenders for his truck because he wanted his ATV in the truck while pulling his travel trailer. I don't know which ones he looked at but he says they are only meant for light duty. Apparently they aren't Class V like the OEM on most new trucks and don't work with...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Platform?

RamRider, shoot me some pics of your set up when you have time. jwvv100@wiu.edu Thanks It's pretty rudimentary. Just 2x4 sandwiched between 3/4"x4'x8' OSB I've had laying around. I build it on a whim to pick up the camper. It's too heavy and honestly ugly. Idea of course is it's temporary...

Oh definitely for slow work like that lower that better. Much better control. If somebody made dual range t-case like 2:1 and 4:1 would be fantastic but we can't expect that much I'm sure. Moab is awesome. Done few trails in my Montero. There was group of H2s there right at the same time. They...

Love finding apple to apple comparisons. Power Wagon and H3T climbing the famous Escalator in Moab. On of the worst passable obstacles for stock rigs anyway. Power Wagon climb H3T Alpha climb Both did it. Both are pretty much stock as I understand but you might know more details about Alpha...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Platform?

Very helpful, thank you. In fact the more I think about it, a platform may not work. There will be a good chunk of camper riding on the tailgate and having it sit on a platform will just be weird/possible unsafe. Gotta think this one through some more. My lack of sleep isn't helping though...

Gold Mt looks fun. Currently I'm trying to locate optional factory rock sliders mine came without. After that I'm game. I wouldn't drive that far south just for that. Although I've been thinking Death Valley this fall maybe. Again if H2 fits (main concern for PW, H2 is actually couple inches...

The H3T has a lot less payload capacity and a little lower break over angle, but it has better ground clearance, larger approach and departure angles and a lower crawl ratio. But even more importantly, it is small enough to fit down narrow trails, which is critical in the area I wheel. Most of...

Oh it was really killing me get a diesel or PW. As always can't have both. Diesel would have been more $$$$, trying to get it close to PW in off-road-ability would be another $5-6k at least. Still wouldn't be the same because of disconnect and sheer weight of diesel. Love everything about PW...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West ranger floor replacement

There was another interesting product called NewWood at my local lumberyard. Seems very appropriate for campers http://www.newwood.com/products#utility tough, waterproof but unfortunately only 1/2 thick. FWC I think uses 5/8 CDX. 1/2 new wood might be a bit under-rated. Somewhere between 1/2 and...

That's not the same thing. 16" is the height of step H3 can climb. Front wheels climb up the step and stay at that height in this exercise. Log Crossing Using the proper technique, the vehicle will cross logs up to 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter. Approach the log at approximately a 15° angle...

Oh I see. As I understand running ground clearance is basically size of the log you can drive over with front wheels then rear. So nothing within wheelbase protrudes below (aka skid plates, cross members, muffler, t-case, etc). That also would dictate breakover angle
