    Death Valley NP for Thanksgiving

Nice report. I've hiked up the canyon where you camped next to the "junker" car near North Pass in Saline Valley. There are interesting tales about that canyon and the yellow truck in the wash. The time I visited I thought it would make a very good campsite...but the springs are always too...

    Owens Valley - November 2021

Happy belated birthday Monte. Always wonderful to read your reports and see the photos and new discoveries. Glad to see the new knees are doing what they need to do...explore natures gymnasium.

Been a while since I've checked out your blog. Read this TR and the article in Desert Magazine. Wonderful stuff.

    ExploreDesert: Picacho

Looks like an interesting spot to get some water time in the desert. I like your offroad camping (LOL-overlanding) pic from days of old.

    Silverton/Telluride Loop - August 2019

Great report. Thanks for taking the time. SW CO is a wonderful experience. I went with a group back around 2010 and camped at the same area you did on your first evening. Rained every afternoon. Sad to read how busy most places seem to be from your report. It is summer and that's the time to go...

ExploreDesert: 4th of July in the Eastern Sierra's

Great report. Owens Valley grabbed me back in 99 during a backpacking trip. Since then Owens and the amazing areas which surround it have been the goal for many trips. Glad the new camper is working out for you.

White Mountains & Sierra Nevada Range - June 2019

Another great report. It brought me back to my first encounter with Owens Valley in the summer of 1999. My friends planned an over night backpacking trip from Onion Valley to Kearsarge. That trip began my wanderlust of all things Owens Valley and surrounding areas. Glad to see the remaining snow.

    Searles Valley be a shakin'

Felt the first one here in coastal Orange County. Felt the second one in the San Gabriel Valley. Longest I've ever felt. Missed the 71 quake. I was in the womb.

Pondering. Work to take camper on/off

Used to do it quite often when I had my Finch. As others have stated, it gets easier with more times you do it.

    Small Camping Tables

I've been using this table for probably ten years. Has a small storage pocket on the side which I put utensils/napkins in. Two levels and the lower one has cup holders. The lower level can support your feet if you want to nap in your camp chair. If you want to keep items out of the sun the...

Why we need to self regulate. Tread lightly on public lands

Quoted: "I think there needs to be a national educational campaign like the Smokey the Bear campaign. People don't understand that today's TP is strong and doesn't decompose rapidly. They don't understand that their waste has germs in it. We need easy to buy poop bags. I stopped in a large...

DIY video, Quick pitch Camper mounted Shower curtain, Slick! 4/24/20, my eventual solution

I recently discovered the 80/20 site and also Tnutz. I think you could do something like this using extruded aluminum and associated hardware. The 80/20 site uses the moniker of "industrial erector set". https://8020.net/?SID=drh2baa64ea9ou6u7pou3ioib7 Very useful guide...

    Yakima track bolts ?

I had a failure of both the cam nuts used for my shower tube on my Yakima Tracks. Had to do an impromptu field fix and recently switched them for the square nuts but didn't load the shower tube with water to test them out.

    Provan Tiger Bengal Camper

Sounds great. I have a friend who is on her 3rd Tiger. She has traveled a lot of this country and has some great stories. Looking forward to photos of not only the Tiger but also the adventures you enjoy with it.

Eastern California Petroglyphs - May 2019

So sorry to hear about the optics. Sending good thoughts your way for a quick and full recovery. What a great report nonetheless. For once I recognize most of the places you traveled. I'll be heading to Owens in the near future. Will be seeing some of those same sites.

New Ford Ranger FWC Fleet Installation

Looks good. I would suggest you look into sliders vs nerf bars. Nerf bars are not made to protect the vehicle from anything other than another car door in a parking lot.

    Six Pac Campers?

I've got a Tradesman Shell now after selling my Finch. So far it is doing what I bought it for. Definitely miss some aspects of my pop-up. Tradesman does make just about anything you ask them to and are metal framed aluminum skinned toppers.

    Yakima track bolts ?

Have you ever had them fail? One member on Tacoma World is stating he no longer uses them because they have become dislodged from the tracks more than once. I'm planning on mounting my shower tube to the tracks using these cam nuts.

    Yakima track bolts ?

I wanted to share my opinion of the Thule cam nuts. I ordered four of them for my Yakima tracks on my truck shell. Same tracks that I had on my Finch. Wish I had taken the chance earlier with these. They are so much easier than the square type track nuts. So simple to put in and take out. No...

Swift transplant to Powerstroke F-150 complete

Looks great. Crazy that they won't make the older narrow models for smaller trucks. The Swift looks at home on the F-150.

Rooftop Tents - you call that a rain fly!

Welcome to WTW. I wouldn't necessarily categorize popup campers in the same class as RTT's. They are much more than a RTT. I had a Flippac and those required LARGE rainfly's. There is also the new wedge/wedgefalia type of shells that companies like Vagabond and GFC are making.

    Current Spike in Gas Prices

Last year I picked up a CNG civic for a daily driver. I commute 70 miles round trip to work. The closest station to me is up at $3.17 right now which is up a dollar in a year. So I go further to get the sub $2.00 price.
