    10' vs 8' CO

The AKC website says 170lbs difference wet weight between the 8 and 10 footer. I have a 10'er and like the open feel it has. I would like to compare it to the 8'er to see if it is that big a difference. I suspect 25% more room would be noticeable.

    New Owner; A Couple Questions

JeffM, My guess is that fan is an add on to help the gas fridge cool. I've seen that done before on other campers. Also when the top is down and the refrigerator is running you are supposed to leave the window open so the fridge vent is not blocked by the top section. Greg

    Weather Sept-Nov

I'm planning a trip starting in September and may be as long as into November. I was thinking of starting at the Tetons then heading north and west into Idaho then perhaps Washington then south from there depending on weather. I assume cool to mild days and chilly to cold nights will be the...

    2010CabOver Solar Install

Fb, Here's a few more pics. The wire from the panels come down the driver side inside a flexible electrical tube, I don't know what it's called, got it at Home Depot. The penetration to the inside is a hole drilled to enter into the channel behind the overhead cabinets. I used a piece of PVC...

    2010CabOver Solar Install

Fb, If you have the factory boat rack on the Alaskan then it's simple to visualize the orientation. The panels are mounted one on either side of the front bar. So the front panel is between the cabover vent and the front bar and the rear panel is between the rear vent/airconditioner (depending...

Alaska, Alaskan CO and grey water

Here's what I do with my grey water. I didn't care for hooking up the hose and Jerry can every time I stopped, especially when going from point A to B and stopping in a rest area etc. I have two containers so I can swap out when full. Greg 2010 AKC CO 10' 2013 GMC 3500HD 6.0L

    2010CabOver Solar Install

I recently finished installing two 140 watt panels on my 10' CO Alskan. Thought I'd share the install. I didn't want to use adhesive only on the roof and I didn't like the idea of bolting completely thru the roof either. I called 3M and asked about the VHB adhesive. They would not tell me the...

Getting a truck now I need the Alaskan

Yep, AC on the roof. Don't know how often it will get used since I like to boondock. Maybe when it's in the driveway and plugged in. Might as well be comfortable while I work on mods. :D

Getting a truck now I need the Alaskan

Got the package together now. Here's the 10ft CO on the truck. Picked it up last Tuesday. couldn't leave well enough alone, aleady modified it so I have a grey water tank inside.

Getting a truck now I need the Alaskan

I was wondering if TC owners generally put something between the camper and truck bed to protect both bed and camper?

Getting a truck now I need the Alaskan

Thanks Stew. There was a nice side dinette for sale in BC for some time (AlaskanGreg). Too bad it didn't fit my truck. I think it was a 2007 and last I saw it was down to around $16500 before it sold. Don't know what the final sale price was.

Getting a truck now I need the Alaskan

Well I finally will be picking up a new truck Saturday. I went with a 6.0L 3500HD SRW 4WD 12000 GVWR. That gives me plenty of CWR for an Alaskan and anything I load it up with. I shyed away from the 2500HD after checking the CWR which was only ~1940 lbs. That's about the weight of the Alaskan...

    New Truck gearing

Looks like I'm not going with the truck and Alaskan camper route. I decided I like having the shower in the camper and since my Tiger CX is bought and paid for I'm going to keep it a bit longer. If I don't get a good trip or two planned for next year then I may put it up for sale. In the mean...

Also, you posted this on another thread: "Right now I don't have a truck and from what I've been told an Alaskan camper won't fit in the GM bed because they narrowed the tailgate opening on their last restyle." location of 14 foot on flatbed

I came across a custom build recently on this site that I can't find now. Someone had a custom built 10 ft CO that sadly burnt up then he started over with a custom 14 footer this year. Can someone direct me to the location of that forum topic? I think the name might have been Carlyle?

I have the updated rams that lift fast and probably would lift twice as much as they do, as long as the pump works. Mike, where did you get the updated rams? from Alaskan? Cost? Did you install yourself?

    New Truck gearing

Is the transmission the GM GL80 in that? If so its got very nice ratios in the speed band I have issues with and can easily see 3.73s being fine: 1st 4.027 2nd 2.367 3rd 1.532 4th 1.152 5th 0.852 6th 0.667 6th is the same as my 5th. My second is steeper that your 3rd and you have a better...

    New Truck gearing

Les, That is spot on for what I got with my Tiger CX. I just clocked over 7000 miles (mostly highway) doing a Nat Park trip. It's a 2003 GMC 2500HD with 4.10 gears. I got 11.6 mpg. Most of one tank was under 50mph and it went up a little over 12 mpg. Thanks! overall milage(all total...

    New Truck gearing

Pods8, if you want to explain further PM me with how to figure this all out. This is an interesting topic since I don't know how this all works yet. Turns out I probably have to go Ford. The Alaskan campers don't fit in a GM truck and Dodge seems to only have crew cab or regular cab in an 8 ft...

    New Truck gearing

GeneRubin, Thanks for the explanation! I'm seeing a lot of 4.10's on the lot in the 3500. If I have to order one with the 3.73 that's what I'll do. The camping season is over for this year for me anyway.
