RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Managing your solar power--"shaded areas"

I have a portable 100W hard zamp panel as well as a generator. I have found the generator to be the best solution up here in Alberta (plenty of shaded campsites). I have not bothered too much with the portable solar panel.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West FWC Hawk ( Generator Question )

Same here. Plug my 2000 watt Honda in when I am camping remotely and shade prevents adequate charging from solar. Simply plug an extension cord into the end of the shore power cord that is attached to the trailer. On average, I seem to get about 20-30 amps/hr when bulk charging with it.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Easy Kayak Lift to Roof

Great idea. I had considered this option but was concerned about 2 issues: 1. The stress on the roof rails applied by the hinging motion of the hullivator 2. Interference with my solar panels - Have you noticed any apparent problems/issues with the roof rails over a year of use? Jason

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Hauling a dual sport with a trailer - front or rear?

Hey David - one option is to modify the trailer a bit and try to install a carrier onto the frame of it (the rails that sit in front of the main box might have enough space).

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Second Battery Question

I would agree. If possible, use the original battery in another application. Otherwise, just go ahead and wire in parallel

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Hauling a dual sport with a trailer - front or rear?

Hi everyone - looking for advice from the group. I currently have a 2013 Ram 2500 with a Hawk. On my trips, I typically tow a utility trailer loaded with gear and a fishing raft (total trailer weight is about 1500 lb loaded). I am looking at buying a small dual sport motorbike to act as a...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Dometic 65L power/current draw

I had the exact same issue with my Dometic 85L in my 2013 Hawk (which was not vented). Despite 300W solar it was still draining down the batteries fairly frequently. I finally pulled the trigger and had FWC replace the unit with an Isotherm 85L at the factory. This involved a bit of cabinetry...

Hi Ragnar - Welcome to the forum! Would you mind posting a pic or link of the remote switch you used for the lights? I have been thinking of doing the same mod. Jason

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Harmful to leave residual antifreeze in hot water tank?

Hey guys - The water system on my 2013 Hawk confuses me. I am trying to winterize the system (it gets real cold up here in Canada over the winters!). As far as I can tell, there is a lower shut off valve that prevents water from draining back into the fresh water tank when closed (so you...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Indoor Shower Project

CWD - cool. That sounds like my setup I used when I was rooftop tenting. I had a modified Zodi set up that I wired up to my 12V truck battery with an on/off switch. It was convenient to be able to draw water from any source.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Indoor Shower Project

I like the idea of the cord to minimize space when stored. Think it will maintain enough tension when the shower curtain is wet to hold it out a bit and give enough space in the shower? Props were deserved bud. I am just building from your idea.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Indoor Shower Project

CWD - Totally agree. Tough to find an simple and effective way for the water to drain. With my current set up, I simply lift the tub and angle it a bit once I am out of the shower to drain out the remaining water through the bottom hose. Then the quick disconnect allows me to remove the drain...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Can't pump all water out of tank?

Phil - Yep, simply replaced the pump. Took about 15 minutes. Never had time dismantle the pump to be sure. But, I never had the same issue after running antifreeze through the pump. Still, I can't be absolutely sure that freezing caused the problem... Jason
