RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hunting in the Days of Gold

I love the golden larch season. But so does everyone else in the North Cascades. Normally the highway is very quiet, but not this time of year:

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Our All Terrain Camper – A Review After Eleven Years of Use

Thanks for this excellent writeup on your experience. We only have 455 nights and have a few similar problems with our FWC. The outside rear light switch just can't take all the dust, and is pretty fussy. We've had rusty screws in several areas, particularly the stove, and wish they used...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to not get locked in my camper

We did similarly. Our backup camera is moved from tailgate to the bottom of the camper. The view isnt as good but works.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West inReach Messenger Plus

Some new phones have satellite capability. Deb's does but we've not tried it yet. Phones aren't nearly as rugged as the devices mentioned above though, and battery life can be an issue. We used the InReach emergency once and was impressed with the service. Anyway, since her phone can text anyone...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2024 Tacoma with FWC?

Admittedly I'm not into power and don't mind slowing down driving long uphills. We do that hiking after all. But I've not noticed any power issues with our Tacoma/Fleet. It's definitely overweight though as the payload is more than 1100 lbs with food, water, full tank of gas, etc. If that's a...

There’s an emergency plan that’s less expensive. But it’s buried in their website and hard to find. See this thread: NWhikers.net

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Expensive versus inexpensive lithium batteries

Will Prowse was enthusiastic about the SOK lithium battery when we were switching to lithium. It's worked great except for the phone app feature that reports the state-of-charge (SOC for the SOK -- confused yet?). We added an inexpensive shunt to our electrical system and ignore the phone app...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Here is how to prevent getting locked out of camper

Well, I guess I didn't quite do it right when I removed the wimpy lock mechanism. I removed almost all the parts, but for some reason I can't recall, I didn't remove the deadbolt part. Guess what? We were on very bumpy roads the past few days and even broke a turnbuckle. I went to the back door...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Climbing Triglav in Winter

Your guides can probably answer that better than anyone. I tried Triglav one fine June day, but since I was on an extended trip didn't have proper gear like ice axe and crampons. I got stopped by the first snowfield with bad runout. Oh, to have had that gear! There were some fun iron pegs and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hiking fitness and recovery stuff

At 58, I noticed a significant drop in power. Fortunately it hasn’t dropped a lot since and has been a more steady decline. It could be something like that happened to you. Maybe check with your doctor. Also some of your symptoms sound like altitude sickness. You could experiment with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 10 ply. Tire Recommendations

I'm not sure if there's a difference between a heavy diesel truck and any other truck. Tires are sized by the auto companies for the intended load. Then again there's people like us with overloaded small trucks. We likely are abusing our rear tires more than a big truck that isn't overloaded.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Time to Act on Stove Recall

Since we take ferries across Puget Sound several times a year (they require propane tank to be off), we've gotten in the habit of turning off the propane before driving.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Top highway speed

In my younger years, I was a left-laner going as fast as I could get away with. But now we try not to exceed 65 (usually we drive at 60 max). It's surprising how many people are hanging out in the right lane going our speed. I tend to watch the rear view mirror more than what's in front to make...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 30 Amp Extension Cord Required For A 2016 Hawk "Shore" Power ?

In most electrified campgrounds we've been to, there's a 20a outlet, a "regular" 3-prong one you'd find in your house. So I don't think it's a problem if you plug into 20a shore power. The 30a outlets you see require a different plug. We did buy such an adapter and have only used it once. The...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Something New Is Afoot

Wow, this is big news! Congratulations! So when you get up in the morning and decide to go on a trip, how will you decide which truck/camper to use? OK, silly question. I assume you'll let someone else have the previous setup. I recall how we decided to get a camper. I said to Deb "in five...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2023 Tacoma TRD Off road & 1999 Ranger (8’ model)

Weight behind the axle actually removes weight off the front axle, which adds that removed weight to the rear axle. So having it extend so far behind the truck is a poor idea.
