Yes about 2.5” on the cabover and 1.25 over the antennas. Maybe if I lived out west with off road camping I would add a 3/4” stall mat. Even though I doubt it would be a problem with frame flex. The new 250’s frame is very stout and flex would be at a minimum.

Thanks ski! I forgot to add the setup will fit in a 8’ tall door opening with 1” to spare. I knew it would be close plan B was to deflate the tires for more clearance. Really happy that won’t be necessary.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2023 F-250/Grandby first load

Ordered in December received in June. Said good by to my 2020 F-150 HDP which was a fantastic truck. Just needed more truck for wintering trips to AZ with a travel trailer. Before loading I did have extension plates fabricated for more bed clearance. I made patterns and the fabricator did a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2023 F-250 Grandby prep

Ordered this truck last December and received it in June. I upgraded from a 2020 F-150 HDPP which was a fantastic truck. Two reasons for the upgrade #1 we also pull a Rockwood 2608BS to winter in AZ. #2 Grandby + BassCat at 4300 lbs. The F-150 was plenty for the Grandby/boat combo but light for...

The 5.0 is a fantastic motor and will handle a Grandby no problem. Old school motor with less moving parts.

I can’t give you good information on that for a couple of reasons. My 2017 3.5/10 speed with a Grandby and a 19’ Ranger bass boat 3500 lbs would do 10-11.4 depending on conditions. My 2020 5.0/10 with the HDPP with a Grandby and a BassCat 4200 lbs. would do about the same. Empty the 3.5 would...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ford F150 3.5 Ecoboost experiences

I have had both 3.5 and 5.0 with a Grandby. My 2017 3.5/10 speed was enough truck for the Grandby and a 19’ Ranger bass boat. I traded it for a 2020 5.0/10 speed with the HDPP and it also did the job with both. I personally would stick with the 5.0 if your Grandby will be on it most of the time...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cab over clearance 2023 F-250

Thanks Stan! This is a 2019 Grandby. Im confident that my measurements are pretty close and with no extra shims the bed rail clearance will be +- 1” with 2-1/4” on the cab and 1” over the two antennas on the rear roof. With body roll on off road stuff could be an issue. Plus loading and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cab over clearance 2023 F-250

Just wondering if anyone has a 2023 Ford F-250 with a Grandby and did you add and shimming to get more clearance. I have a new 2023 and getting ready to prep for my Grandby. My calculations indicate 2-1/4” after setting on a 1/2” rubber bed mat. Will that be enough or should I add a 3/4” stall...

Summer pollinators are in full swing here on the farm. Really enjoy the seasonal color changes in our pollinator plot along with the wildlife and insects. Grass land songbirds are finishing the renewal of life and are using the plot to fatten up for the fall migration. Plenty of young mammals...

Added some fun gear for travels and we love the flexibility of these kayaks. Carol chose the Inlet model 10’ long and weighs 20 lbs. I have the Beach model at 12’and 26 lbs. Very well designed and assembly and stowing is very easy after a couple of outings. Average setup time 10 minutes and...

The F-150 3.5/10 speed with the aluminum body is a excellent machine. My previous F-150 with 2050 payload with bags and a Grandby 12.4 average with a load. I also tow a 3500 lb bass boat with at mph 10.4. My current F-150 a 2020 super cab 8’ box with the 5.0/10 speed and HDP package giving a...

Huge road trip today here in IL. My ground hog came out on this first beautiful day a first in three months. She came out long enough to see her shadow and crawled back in the hole. Been a crazy winter here record low temperatures and a ton of snow. And for added fun high winds on a couple of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Grandby installed on the new F-150

I added a set of bolt on Hellwig 2500 lb helper springs. Just to help with the added tongue weight of my boat. Probably didn’t need them for the camper only. They did level the truck nicely and handling is exceptional.

Great discussion on this suspension modifications and tire choice. I will add that I had BFG/E-AT’s on my last F-150 very good tires they did stiffing the road ride considerably. Since I don’t do much off road camping they probably were over kill D’s would be my choice now. My Current F-150 with...
