For longer range trip planning.

2017 is the 150th birthday of Canada and the 75th anniversary of the Alaska Highway...

I know some event planning has already begun up here...

Any questions please feel free to ask...

We were up there for the 50th. There were some nice events. That would be something to think about.
Thanks Robbie.
How is the new camper working out for you?

We still have our 1981 FWC Fleet. Needs someTLC this coming winter. Thinking of making it a hard side camper...

Hello Robbie,
That sounds interesting. Do want to make the trip again, this time do the Canol Rd. Last time it was only a few clicks beyond Ross River. Still running the same setup, Hawk on a Silverado. The truck has 230k miles (370k clicks) and still runs great. Its one of those Canadian made Chevys. Last time chatting I had made it back to Wisconsin and a former employer gives me a call and wanted me to do some work for them so I have been out of the loop the last few years, job was away from home.
Keep me posted,
Tom
ps: the dirt on the truck is AK dirt

A much more scenic road in my humble opinion is the Nahanni Range Road. 60 miles up the Robert Campbell Highway towards Ross River.

Then turn right and it is about 135 miles to Cantung mine site. Lots of good fishing, wildlife, scenery.. less people..

Robbie

End of June to end of September. Wife and I have been spending two weeks up there each year for the past 7 yrs on an annual moose hunting trip.
We go up also quite often in late June to whern we go on our hunting trip. Usually will make a 3 or 4 day trip of it so don;t go much past the Hyland River 60 miles up the road (110 miles from our house) on the shorter trips. The end of the road at the Tungsten mine, is 170 miles from our house. If you want the most colourful scenery then end of August to mid September. That is generally when the leaves change colour.
Last two weeks of September can be a bit cold and snow but we have always got out..
We caught some real good arctic grayling this year. Very good eating. There are also Dolly Varden trout to be had.

Hmm, a 1300 mile fall trip around Lake Superior with no fooking bugs. :D

Only decision is clock-wise or counter-clock-wise.

I do 95% of the driving, so clock-wise for my sweetie to have the best lake view! Eh?

Update: Lake Superior Banff AB Canada

Now, 2000 miles one-way!

We absolutely will not go anywhere near Chicago.

Instead, we will go straight north up Michigan across the Mackinac Bridge, longest suspension bridge between anchorages in the Western Hemisphere, just 28 FEET short of 5 miles.
