Thanks, we stocked up with beer in the gift shops. In Indiana all you can purchase is a growler to go. Good IPA's

Thanks Ski. With close to 2" of rain overnight the river level increased 1' - 1-1/2'. The nice holes under the now moving channel and the wind didn't help. No hits and didn't see one fish, but how can you not like being out there. Still had fun. jd

Did you encounter any Black Flies during your trip?

None, some mosquitos. I wondered about black flies, maybe we got lucky. jd

Wow.. you certainly we're lucky. Black flies love clean water and usually come out first... followed by the slow mosquito and later by its smaller cousin (at the same time as the deer fly and green heads). Should you go way north No-see-ums (an they are wicked small) come out in clouds... usually after dark. They can FLY through regular netting. We have a second set of screens that velcro on for all windows and vents. They love light so come in to be on the LED's! Their bite is bizarrely painful for such a little thing...it is more a sting than the itch follows (and swelling). Head nets are an essential thing to have in your pocket for when it gets nuts.
My suggested bug juice is called Picaridin (by Sawyer). It is as good as Deet but will not melt gear/plastic... has almost no scent and won't cause brain damage! It is not cheap. Works on all of the above and ticks. For the prevention bug juice I buy Permethrin (also made by Sawyer. It is what is in BugOff clothing. Both of these are derived from plant base. The Permethrin is a treatment for gear and clothes. One treatment lasts six weeks or six washings. It is great to stop ticks. I've seen them climb up the pant leg and fall off in 30 seconds. I treat socks and pants (tuck socks into pants ...look like a goober but who cares!).

To bad you couldn’t drive your truck to the summit. Did you have the trailer in tow when they denied you access?

Left the trailer at the campsite. I would have used my engine braking. I believe I could have done it. I did Mount Mansfield, VT and it was a narrow gravel road with some switchbacks. jd
