The Lady and I headed north from our home in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains. Our destination surprised some of our friends. How about you? The story will take several installments to tell. All parts are completed and posted to our blog. You may find them here -

We hope you enjoy! :)

Excellent report!
We've made two trips to the San Juans. One in our Hawk and one where we rented a cabin. On both, we stayed on Orcas Island and we had a boat on each trip. Fishing and boating were our primary motivations each time.

We would like to go again. Always be prepared with clothing for any type of weather. You will likely encounter the opportunity to wear everything you bring.

A thanks to the Ski3pins for letting us tag along on the San Juans trip. It was a it of a homecoming for me, as Seattle, then Whidbey Island were my first duty stations after Vietnam. Wonderful trip report!

BTW, that cute little tug photo is of a Ranger EC 21. A nice little fuel efficient diesel trawler.

WOW and thanks for the post.
We have always enjoyed the San Juan's
Many of our trips north to Alaska or Vancouver Island
take us through the Islands.

I think we stayed at that county park in 2009 on our
return trip from Alaska. We had tried to get a spot at
Orcas Island SP but all sites were full.So after a nice hike at the park
we got back on the next ferry to Friday Harbor.

It's great to see you guys exploring different areas.

Waiting for future posts.
Frank

Just checked ,we did stay at the San Juan CP.
Tent camped just above the water.
Great spot.

Great start to the San Juan trip report. Evokes fun memories for us. My lovely wife taught for two years on Waldron Island. Non Ferry Served, wood fired cabin, hand pump for water, had to take the mail boat to and from every week or two for supplies. She and I have kayaked in the sound a few times. Her nephew is building a home in Shelton, a stones throw from the water. Looking forward to your next installment. Thanks for letting us tag along!

This is a wonderful beginning of another top notch Ski3pin TR.
Really cool to see Ted and Donna continuing to live the dream, and your supportive friendship.
It was also good to see MarkBC and his new truck! But where's the camper?

Following.

So far this story is so dear to us.
As we traveled some of these same areas for the past 45 years.

One of the things our 2 daughters would do is compare the "biscuits and gravy"
from the different breakfast places we would eat.

Enjoying this more that I can put into words.
Thanks
Frank

Tuning in as we're planning a trip in June. Although the first and last part of the trip will be truck camping we plan to boat in to islands not served by the ferries primarily.

Monte what a great ending to a fantastic trip.
Everything was was great. The otter putting on that show one
of the high spots.

Thanks for taking the time to put the story into print.
It's a huge job and I appreciate all the work you do to tell us
all a story.
Till the next adventure.
