AC Unit for Campers

The Cool My Camper units are nothing more than what's called a mini-split A/C. They're readily available in the U.S. made by other companies. They're available from both Home Depot and Lowe's and can be installed by a DIYer.

Sort of on the same note, Shasta is reissuing their 1961 trailer. Here's a video link. If I were getting a trailer I'd look seriously into this. Check out the AC unit that is in this puppy- nice!

The point I wanted to make by posting the Shasta retro video was to call attention to where the AC is located. Is located low to the floor instead of on the roof. Now 'that' makes sense.

Does it? Cold air sinks. How effective is that placement going to be? I wonder if its ducted.

I put an AC in a 1956 Shasta that I rebuilt and I put it in high - against the ceiling.

It pulls outside air through a top vent and blows the hot air out of a side vent. I lined the cabinet with aluminum and made a drip pan for it, too.

It would be difficult to mount the Air conditioning unit on the top of the camper. idea looks interesting.

If I wasn't planning on going off road this could be an option For now it will be a slide in but who knows 10 years down the road I may be ready for the paved life

I purchase a CA Koldfront 7000 A/C unit. when we go camping in the summer to the Indiana State Parks we will take it. It fits behind the drivers seat and if we need it we load it into the camper. There is a large duct that goes out a turnbuckle door. You don't need to connect a hose for condensation as it is self contained, but we did and ran it out the turnbuckle door. I cut a piece of 80-mil TPO roofing to cover the turnbuckle opening with a large round hole for the duct and a small one for the hose. There is a picture of the unit in our blog. Go to the McCormick's Creek post. It did a great job of cooling off the camper. Of course you will need to have shore power or a compressor. jd

This works great in a camper. It's cheap and runs on 12 V.

That's freakin awesome! Now I can go for a hike in the desert National Parks and not have to worry about leaving my dog in the hot camper. It sure beats the FWC AC unit for $700! Thankee sir!

Air Conditioning Units that are installed in most of the campers are sort of like the mini split AC only. If you want to make sure that your camperac is running well, you should check its air filter to get rid of any buildup of dust in in that can hinder performance. You also need to perform your camper's air conditioning repair after about every two or three weeks.

I do agree with your statement that camper air conditioning need to serviced once a month for its better performance, If you are having the timely AC repair , you won't come in trouble with your camper ac unit.
