With all this snow hitting the West and South, I'm glad I'm not out camping right now. Thanks to Covid, I bypassed the Arizona trip I was going to do. Is there anyone who is out in that storm?

FWIW: I've been camped in southern Arizona, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, for 2 weeks. Weather is fine - generally beautiful - this far south.
But my plan was/is to go east to Texas, camp mostly along the Gulf and to continue to wander east from there. So I'm in a holding pattern here for at least a few more days until things normalize in TX. It sure ain't normal there at the present!

Wife and I just spent 5 days in capitol reef national park. Woke up to snow this morning but only about an inch. The drive back home was much worse. We made it safely though.

Our trip into the backcountry of Big Bend Ranch State Park was scuttled by the winter weather in West Texas on Valentines Day.

Power was on in Presidio, TX for our last snowy, frigid night in TX (2/14). Presidio had power and cell phone service on 2/15, both thanks to Ojinaga, Mexico, the border town. We topped off on fuel before heading north, and I'm very glad we did-there was no power, fuel or cell service in Marfa. Roads between Presidio and Van Horn were in decent shape, with only a few spots with drifts across the road. There are zero snowplows in Far West Texas, and you can't buy an ice scrapper! Ask me how I know!

We managed to get into NM Monday (2/15) with pretty minimal fuss, and the water system in the camper seems to have survived the cold ok. Some hotsprings here in NM have taken the edge off the cold and snow of Texas.

We did have a few great days camped on the Rio Grande, did two great mtb rides near Lajitas, and hiked a very short slot canyon before winter storm Uri poured into Texas and froze us out.

Arizona- which is home -beckons with 80F in the 7 day forecast! 20210214_125638.jpeg20210213_165314.jpeg20210213_174433.jpeg20210214_160715.jpeg

I was camping in the Eastern Sierra. I don't run my heater while I sleep - I have a real warm down bag and a comforter and a dog. It was 5 degrees in the camper the morning of Feb. 18. I laughed.
