I was wondering if anyone on here has had experience with getting a camper shipped? I've got my eye out for a FWC but haven't really see too much close to me (Seattle) of interest and am curious about potentially shipping one in if I find a decent used one in my price range elsewhere. If you have had one shipped what was your general impression of the service, how well did things go, ball park cost, etc?

Thanks.

P.S. First post here, been wanting a FWC for a couple years and have poked in here from time to time to tease myself with all the great pictures, modifications, and trips you guys have posted. :thumb:

First off...Welcome.

Secondly..I know "the FWC jones" well. It's an itch that seems incredibly hard to scratch at times...

Dunno what your budget is...but I can't see ya going wrong here...and it's in yer town...

My 2008 cost almost 18K. Delivery was $1000 of that from CA to Colorado.

I looked for a good 3 months and never made a long distance connection so bought a new one. We LOVE it. Had I had a 2006 for 12K in my area I would have jumped on it in a heartbeat.

Best of luck.

Camper Shipped to Me in Washinton

Hi,

YES! I did have 4WC ship my camper to me, and I live in Edmonds (very close to you in Seattle). It was fantastic. I met the folks at a Walmart just south of Seattle and they had it installed in about an hour. They did a very professional job and I was very happy with the whole process. It saved me the California sales tax and the cost of me driving all the way to California. I recommend doing this. The only issue you may run into is that they typically like to send more than one camper up on a truck so I am not sure you would get the 'exact' date you want for delivery. But I got mine earlier than expected.

Chris (purchased new camper in 2008)

Was looking for some campers with a few more years on them, don't have the funds for the new/nearly new market. I've seen some that are in decent shape in the $3-6k range elsewhere which made me curious about shipping.

I'm actually in South Everett by boeing field so I'm probably closer than you think (usually say Seattle when on boards because its easier to explain).

I was actually curious about arranging for a used shipment rather than a new one. The new ones the factory is arranging shipment and likely has a good repor with the shipper, wondering about pulling it off with a private party elsewhere...

Cheers,

I gotcha.

Pricing on these units is all over the place. there's an '88 Grandby on CL in CA for $3200...and a 2007 for $9999....and I've seen the same model years selling for a low of $500 ('88) and a high of 12K ('07 Eagle/Hawk) respectively.

IMO, alot of it is WHERE the unit is located. If it's in California you WILL pay a premium. (their stuff is worth more than everyone else's, evidently!) It also seems like many of the older units are here in CO (where FWC was located in the early days) and 90% of the newer ones are on the West coast.

When I was looking I got up every AM and searched "four wheel camper craigslist" on Google. I think more units will show up as "Spring" nears.

I also looked into shipping a used unit...just in case. I'd wager you'll be looking at between 1-2K depending on the distance shipped. After adding in all the side costs to ship an old unit, I personally chose to put that $$$$ into a new one.

again..good luck in your search.

Yeah I've noticed the price range variance. Right now I'm either thinking find a decent early 2000 era one or a cheap old model that is still structurally sound (and will fit a modern rig) and I'll just rebuild the thing.

Price of everything in CA is high, the higher property and taxes trickle through everything. Funny I've actually been doing that searching just about daily :D
and noticed similar patterns (old stuff in CO, alot of newer stuff in the southern west coast.

I was sort of hoping to hear a shipping company would toss one of these on a rig for $500 or so (wishful thinking, haha) I'll have to look into it a bit more, it its as much as you're guessing then I'll have to rethink that plan.

What year, make, and model truck do you have ?

(that will make a difference on what campers will / or won't fit your truck)

What is your budget ?

I might be able to steer you in the right direction.

Lowell Goold Trucking (Based out of Oregon) can deliver used campers most anywhere in the USA. His phone number is (541) 969-2563. He specializes in trucking RV's, trailers, truck campers, tent trailers, etc. Not sure what his rates are, you would have to call him once you find a used camper.

I'll either be mainly looking for an Eagle, Ranger, Hawk, or shell model of those units (possibly consider a grandby, not really interested in a falcon or keystone). I'll work the truck around it, my current rig will fit an eagle/ranger but I've been thinking bumping up to a fullsize so the Hawk is in mind as well. To an extent I'm seeing what I can do in regards to a camper and tailoring the truck to suit (its not the final decision maker but its a consideration).

As mentioned right now I'm looking for rights $6k and under. On the upper end I'm looking for something in relatively good shape, lower end I'm looking for a rebuild project, I'm open minded depending on what comes along.

Thanks for the contact on the trucking, I'll keep that in mind.

Maybe time for a road trip to CO??? I wanted one for years & my neighbor had one sitting in their yard after they bought a class A motor home. 1987 Granby with all options, excellent shape as they only used it to go to the lake, even have the original brochures & sales receipt. I paid $1400 for it about 6 years ago & we both felt good about the deal. There seems to be a lot of them out here that are about that age & range between $250 & $2500 depending on condition & seller motivation. Some are pretty rough but most are in decent shape. I'd be willing to pick one up & store it until you could get out this way if you found one in the Colorado Springs area. Might be a member in the Denver area that would be willing to do the same?
